Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has issued a demand for accountability following President William Ruto’s dissolution of the Cabinet, calling for the President to produce evidence of the “criminals” he alleged were present in Parliament.
In a statement on Thursday, July 11, the Senator revisited the events of June 25, where scores were killed in the exchange between police and protesters.
Omtatah asserted that it was imperative for the nation to demand accountability on the side of the government over the remarks that “criminals” had infiltrated protests.
“Why is life so cheap in this country?” Omtatah questioned in a post on his X account on 11th July 2024.
“Unless we demand justice for the kids who were killed, there is nothing we are doing as Senators. We are just going to the same usual thing of lulling the country to sleep,” omtatah said.
Omtatah’s remarks come in response to President Ruto’s claims that criminals had infiltrated the streets.

The senator criticized the President for failing to substantiate these allegations, stating, “President Ruto told us that criminals were on the streets, he has not produced a single criminal. We cannot be told lies every day.”
Omtatah Demands
The senator’s impassioned plea shows a broader call for transparency and justice.
“If we have to do anything, we have to demand accountability for that blood, we must demand that President Ruto produces the criminals he claimed invaded Parliament if they were not citizens,” Omtatah urged.
“Can he point out among those dead people; can he Isolate one person who was a criminal that his security forces were.”

Omtatah further emphasized the need for truth and integrity in leadership.
“The time when people said words and got away with it are behind us. Can he point out among those dead people, can he isolate one person who was a criminal that his security forces were targeting?” he demanded.
The senator’s strong words reflect growing unrest and a demand for accountability in the wake of President Ruto’s controversial actions.

President Ruto made the announcement on Thursday, July 11, at State House Nairobi in a State of the nation address.
The Head of State, however, noted that the deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi will not be affected by the dismissal of CSs.
“Upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” said Ruto
