Brigadier Fabian Lengusuranga serves as President William Ruto’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC), a position that entails constant proximity to the Head of State, particularly during public engagements and ceremonial functions.
An ADC is a military officer who stands behind the President during official functions.
Contrary to popular notion, the ADC is not a bodyguard, but one mandated with managing the president’s diary and liaising with their main security team.
The ADC is a symbol of authority and represents the President’s role as Commander-in-Chief, because no other Kenyan can have a uniformed ADC from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
Fabian Lengusuranga: Meet President Ruto’s ADC Who Knows His Every Move
Fabian was promoted from Colonel to his current rank in the latest military leadership changes on June 28, 2025.
Speaking during a church service at ACK All Saints’ Pro-Cathedral Church in Maralal, Samburu County, on Sunday, November 9, Ruto described Lengusuranga as someone who knows his whereabouts around the clock.
“My ADC Fabian knows where I am always, 24 hours; he knows I am at this house, I have gone to this place, and I have slept here,” Ruto said.
Lengusuranga has served as Ruto’s ADC since October 2022, succeeding Major General Stelu Lekolool, who was redeployed to the Department of Defence headquarters after serving as the ADC to former President Uhuru Kenyatta for four years.
Lekolool served as retired President Uhuru’s ADC from 2018 and briefly held the same position under Ruto before Lengusuranga’s appointment
He was the first ADC in Kenya drawn from the Navy, making history in that capacity.
A distinguished Kenya Army officer, Brigadier Lengusuranga, hails from the KDF’s elite Special Forces unit, known for their advanced tactical training and specialized military expertise.
Fabian joined the military in 1999 and rose to become a senior line commander in the elite special forces unit of the Kenya Army, a unit tasked with undertaking high-profile military operations.
He has become a familiar presence in Ruto’s public appearances, both official and informal.
Lengusuranga’s responsibilities include assisting the president with personal effects, opening car doors, providing full-time security, and ensuring ceremonial dignity during events.

ADC in Kenya
In Kenya, an ADC is largely a colonial hangover that has come to define the presidency.
The period during which an ADC will serve depends on several factors, including age, but most serve in this capacity for three years.
According to the National Defence Council (NDC), changes at the office of the ADC are made from time to time due to the career progression of officers.
The title “Aide-de-Camp” originates from French, meaning “helper in the military camp.”
The ADC is a principal military officer assigned to the President, often seen at the Head of State’s side during official functions.
