Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed the main message of his 2027 presidential bid.
While speaking during a church service at PCEA Ruring’u Parish in Nyeri County on Sunday, September 14, the former deputy president said that he does not want to sell hopeful promises.
Instead, he wants to restore the Kenyan state to what he describes as the stability and discipline of the former president Mwai Kibaki’s era.
His speech outlined three immediate priorities: fixing healthcare, restoring dignity to wages, and rescuing education.
Gachagua also named a short list of executive decisions taken under President William Ruto that he says he would revoke if elected.
I accepted the request of the people of Kenya to run for president in 2027, and I came home yesterday to ask for your blessing. I don’t want to promise you lies that I will build roads, dams, or that will connect electricity.
The country is almost broke. If Kenyans elect me as president, I want to do one thing: I want to restore the Kenyan state to where Mwai Kibaki left it.

Orders Gachagua Will Issue
The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader said his approach would be rooted in honesty rather than empty promises.
However, he indicated that his campaign will focus on the restoration of health, education, the economy, and security.
On healthcare, he promised to repair a broken system where Kenyans struggle to find drugs in hospitals.
Additionally, he promised to revive the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to ensure that the card works as intended.
“We want to make sure when Kenyans go to the hospital, there are drugs. Restore NHIF so that when you have a card and you go hospital, you are treated and you go home,” he said.
On education, the former deputy president pledged to return to the era of free primary education and a financing model that gives all students equal access to universities.
“I will make sure we restore the university financing model to ensure that our children get the education that is an equalizer,” he added.

Economy and Security
On the economy, Gachagua complained about the erosion of the Kenyan payslip, saying workers have been left with no purchasing power.
According to him, the housing levy is a burden on citizens and should end immediately.
“I want to restore the dignity of the pay slip. It has been raided, and Kenyans have no purchasing power.
“On the first day, I will scrap the housing levy and hand over all those houses to the county governments to manage them, collect rent, and pay back all those whose money was deducted,” he declared.
Gachagua also pledged to overhaul the security of the country. He promised to end abductions and extrajudicial killings by rescinding orders that allowed lethal force.
“I will rescind the order by Murkomen to shoot to kill. I will also rescind the order by William Ruto that people should be shot in the leg.”
“We want to restore our security. Gangs with knives are robbing people in broad daylight. People are so scared in the country, and you don’t know who has been hired to assassinate you,” he noted.
