Homabay County Governor Gladys Wanga has debunked rumors circulating on social media claiming that she will be appointed as the next Deputy President should DP Rigathi Gachagua be impeached.
Wanga in a post on her official X account on August 2 termed the information as false and propaganda.
She attached a screenshot of the viral post with a FAKE stamp on it to inform the public that the allegations made in the post were false.
“False information spreads like wildfire, fueled by deceitful propaganda,” Gladys Wanga wrote.
The post flagged as fake claimed that highly placed sources have intimated that a “woman governor from Nyanza could be made Deputy President if Rigathi Gachagua is impeached”.

It further read that “State emissaries have been frequently seen trooping the governor’s Homabay home”.
“The governor’s security has also been enhanced and now boasts of 3 chase cars and 7 GSU G company guards based in her Homabay and Nairobi homes,” the fake post read.
“If she ascends to the Deputy President’s position, she will be Kenya’s first woman Deputy President.”

On August 2, most of the Social Media users were alleging that Gladys Wanga is already prepared for the role.
Others were alleging that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Raila Odinga has discussed with President William Ruto to impeach the DP and replace him with a Luo who most likely could be Gladys Wanga.
“Gladys Wanga may be the first female DP in Kenya. We were in Homa Bay when President William Ruto asked her to prepare for heavy tasks. I don’t know how or why the president settled on her, but I cannot doubt his wisdom, it’s a game of numbers,” Amir Swaleh an X user said.
The rumors and clarification come after a report by The Standard alleged that a late-night meeting held on Saturday, July 27, involving 21 MPs at the house of a Cabinet Secretary nominee, resolved to raise an impeachment motion against the DP on grounds of undermining the Presidency.
The attendants at the meeting resolved to raise a motion of impeachment against DP.
They accused Gachagua of gross violation of the Constitution and gross misconduct.
Gachagua appears to have fallen out with key leaders in the Kenyan Kwanza Alliance and has been accused of disrespecting President William Ruto and promoting tribalism.

Leaders Rally Behind Gachagua
However, a section of leaders has moved to defend Gachagua even as reports of an impeachment plot intensify.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba said they will not allow the DP to be victimized and harassed while accusing the proponents of the impeachment plan of seeking to divert the attention of Kenya from more pressing issues.
“They are just looking for a reason to divert attention from the ongoing protests that are happening in Kenya so that they can fix individuals,” she said.
“We are waiting for those raising issues to impeach the Deputy resident, we will not allow anybody to victimise others because of defending and representing their community.”
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga also dismissed calls for Gachagua’s impeachment as baseless and misguided and argued that instead of facing impeachment, the DP should be praised for his role in the rejection of the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
“These accusations are nothing but weak claims. The Deputy President stood up against the Finance Bill, and the people have spoken – they rejected it. These attempts to remove him from office are not only misguided but also a slap in the face of the people who elected him,” he said.
Elsewhere, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka announced that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party will oppose the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua when it is tabled in the house.
