The Linda Mwananchi Movement has dismissed claims that Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala facilitated a meeting between Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Abigael Gikonyo, a member of the Linda Mwananchi secretariat, said Sifuna had direct access to Gachagua, disputing suggestions that Malala brought the two leaders together.
Gikonyo made the remarks in response to a Facebook post by Wanjiku Thiga, who suggested that Malala had facilitated the meeting between Gachagua and Sifuna, potentially marking the beginning of a new political chapter ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Linda Mwananchi Clarifies Malala’s Role in Sifuna-Gachagua Meeting
“One meeting can open doors to new possibilities. With our DCP PARTY Deputy Party Leader Cleo Malalah facilitating H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH and Edwin W. Sifuna’s meeting, Kenya could be witnessing the beginning of a new political chapter,” Thiga wrote.
She accompanied the post with the hashtag #GachaguaMeetsSifuna.
However, Gikonyo rejected the account, insisting that Malala did not arrange the meeting and that Sifuna already had a direct relationship with Gachagua.
“Malala did not facilitate the meeting, though Kiongozi Sifuna has direct access and contact with Riggy G!” Gikonyo responded.
She further argued that portraying Malala as the person who enabled the engagement risked undermining Sifuna’s standing as a presidential candidate.
“Do not reduce our presidential candidate like that, surely buana! This doesn’t help Malala at all. Respectfully though,” she added.

Gachagua Hosts Linda Mwanachi Brigade
The exchange comes after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hosted members of the Linda Mwananchi movement at his Wamunyoro residence hours after returning from the United States, amid growing discussions about a possible political alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua welcomed the visitors in a Facebook post, referring to them as his “cousins from Linda Mwananchi.”
“When we come together, great things must happen,” he added.
The meeting came amid efforts to explore cooperation between Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) and Linda Mwananchi, a political movement associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. However, Gachagua did not announce a formal coalition agreement following the meeting.

Malala has previously outlined DCP’s proposed approach to building a broader opposition coalition, saying the party intended to partner with Linda Mwananchi before engaging other political formations.
“We as DCP cannot join the Ukombozi Alliance. They should join together as TUA, while we in the DCP will join Sifuna. Then we will negotiate together for one coalition,” Malala said.
His remarks pointed to a strategy in which DCP would first establish a partnership with Sifuna’s movement before negotiating with other opposition groups to pursue a joint coalition ahead of the 2027 polls.
