The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has given Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna four days to respond to allegations of gross misconduct and explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
In a notice issued by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on April 2, Sifuna has been directed to submit a written explanation within four days, and no later than April 8, 2026.
The party further requires him to appear before a disciplinary panel on April 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., where the matter will be heard and resolved through its internal dispute resolution mechanism.
ODM warned the legislator that failure to respond within the stipulated timeline will result in the case proceeding in his absence, with the party taking appropriate action in line with its constitution.
“Take further notice that should you fail to respond within the stipulated period, the Party shall proceed to determine the matter in accordance with the ODM Party Constitution, and take such action as it deems appropriate,” read part of the statement.
The move forms part of the initial steps to remove Edwin Sifuna from office, following decisions made during the NEC meeting held on February 11, 2026.
ODM Accuses Edwin Sifuna of Gross Misconduct
In the letter, Edwin Sifuna faces multiple charges of gross misconduct, including allegations of contradicting the party’s positions, engaging in unsanctioned political activities, and failing to attend key meetings.
The party accuses him of publicly declaring the ODM-UDA Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) “dead” during a July 22, 2025, appearance on Citizen TV’s The Explainer, and making statements inconsistent with official party resolutions, thereby undermining its authority.
He is further accused of repeatedly issuing contradictory public statements despite participating in and communicating the party’s resolutions.

Other Charges
In a separate incident on February 3, 2026, also on The Explainer, Sifuna allegedly continued to advance positions at odds with party resolutions, aggravating divisions within the party and its membership.
During the interview, Sifuna revealed that the ongoing consultative forums, dubbed Linda Ground, are not funded from the party’s account.
He later confirmed that he had not signed off on any funds for such functions.
He went ahead to state that the last funds released from the party’s accounts were used during the ODM 20th-anniversary celebrations at the coast.

The charges also cite his involvement in the “Linda Mwananchi Initiative,” described as a parallel, unsanctioned political effort that engaged external actors outside officially approved party programs, contrary to the decisions of the party’s Central Committee.
Additionally, ODM accuses Sifuna of failing to attend critical meetings, including the Central Committee session of January 12, 2026, and subsequent National Executive Committee sittings, while publicly criticizing matters discussed in those forums.
The party maintains that, taken together, his actions are prejudicial to its interests, discipline, unity, and public standing, and amount to gross misconduct that could warrant disciplinary action, including removal from office.
