Collins Oyuu Biography
Collins Oyuu is the current secretary of the Kenya National Union of Teachers, KNUT, who was elected unopposed, replacing Wilson Sossion. Collins was born in 1965 in Uyoma, Rarieda, Siaya County.
Oyuu also serves as a member of the Kenya National Qualifications Board, appointed in October 2023. Prior to his appointment as Secretary-General, he worked as the acting National Chairman of KNUT.
Educational background
Collins began his primary education in 1972 at Kasarani Primary School and briefly attended the Kenya Police Training College in 1983.

Before shifting to teaching at Shanzu Teachers Training College, Kilifi, in 1987, Collins Oyuu had attended seminary study at Queen of Apostles in Mabanga for several years. He is a trained teacher, having later undertaken a Bachelor of Education degree.
Career background
Collins was a teacher at Ruma Primary School in Siaya County. His long-standing affair with union leadership started in 1996 when he was elected a branch executive committee member in the same county. His star continued to rise, and in 2002, he was elected the chair of the Bondo Branch. Six years later (2008) he became secretary of the Rarieda branch and in 2013 joined the Knut National Steering Committee where he would serve as acting assistant Sec-Gen and in 2015 was confirmed for the position. In 2018, he was elected to the position of KNUT vice chairperson.

Family background
He is married and has three children: two sons and a daughter.
Achievements
He has been advocating for the recruitment of JSS interns by the government on a permanent and pensionable basis, with 20,000 teachers to be confirmed as government teachers by 2026.
He was also part of the union officials who made the government implement the official salary increment for Kenyan teachers effective July 2025, following the implementation of the newly signed 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
