Brian Kabugi, popularly known as Real Buggi, is a Kenyan actor and filmmaker who was first seen in Machachari, a Kenyan telenovela, as Kenny.
His achievement in the film industry has continued to ignite after starring in the Netflix series ‘ Volume’. In October, Kabugi and Makena Kahuha premiered their short film, Mid Young Crisis. The duo is set to make a comeback on MTV Shuga Mashariki’s second season in 2026.

Early life and education
Brian Kabugi was born on September 2, 2000, in Langata, Nairobi. Kabugi grew up in his family, comprising the parents and the older brother, Daniel. At the age of 12, he played the role of Kenny in Machachari, a Kenyan telenovela on Citizen TV. While on Machachari, he was being managed by his mother. His upbringing was guided by his mother after the loss of his father.
Kabugi Attended Cardinal Maurice Otunga High School in Nairobi, there after he never joined campus, something that her mother was not happy with.

Professional career
Kabugi’s career, as he notes, it’s a journey. He began as an extra in Machachari at the age of 12. He later joined Dream Child in 2018, a film in which he played the role of Kevin. In 2023, Kabugi played the lead actor role in a Netflix series volume as ‘Benja’.
Earlier this year, he made a cameo appearance in the MTV Shuga mashariki, and the web series is set to have a second season in 2026, where he will also be part of it.
As a filmmaker, Kabugi, together with Makena Kahuha, produced their short film, Mid Young Crisis, which explored the lives of youths, particularly Gen-Z, and premiered it at Anga Diamond Cinema in October 2025. The film featured Kenyan actors like Faiz Ouma, Mwirigi, and Claudia Naisabwa.
Other shows that Kabugi has been featured in include Kina, Saleem and Sleep, Makutano Junction, and Know Zone. The shows have been on Netflix, Showmax, and Viusasa. A significant moment for his role in the drama series Salem he cut his dreadlocks to fit the character “Tito Karani”, showing his commitment and passion to the role. With Angie as the new manager, they have been able to negotiate deals, enabling them to understand the value of the art in the entertainment industry.
Kabugi has also been active on social media, showcasing his love for acting on YouTube and featuring fellow actors, including Makena Kahuha. He is passionate about acting and believes that through his art, he will win an Oscar.
