The Board of Directors of Unga Group Plc has announced changes in the Company’s leadership structure.
In a notice on August 4, the Board announced that Kinya Kimotho has been appointed as an independent Non-Executive Director of the Company, effective August 1, 2025.
Unga Group also announced the retirement of Vitalis Ondeke Ojode from his role as a Non-Executive Director of Unga Group Plc, effective August 2025.
The Board described Kinya as a seasoned finance executive and qualified accountant with over 20 years of experience in financial leadership, strategic planning, corporate governance, and business transformation across multinational organisations.
Kimotho currently serves as Finance Director Partner Emerging Markets at Diageo.
She held a similar position at East African Breweries (EABL) between January 2106 and September 2020.
Between July 2012 and October 2015, she worked as an Executive Director Finance Africa at The Nielsen Africa Company.
Prior, she held a similar position at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) from July 2004 to June 2012.
From January 2002 to July 2004, Kimotho was a Financial Controller at the same Company.
She started her career as an Audit Senior at Price Waterhouse in July 1992 before joining Glaxo Wellcome Limited in May 1996.
“In these roles, she has played a pivotal role in driving financial performance, strengthening governance frameworks, and optimising business operations across Africa and Europe,” the Board said.

Kinya Kimotho Education
Kinya holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Business and Managerial Economics from Kenyatta University.
She is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the Institute of Directors.
“The Board welcomes and congratulates Kinya Kimotho on her appointment and looks forward to her valuable contributions to the Company,” reads part of the notice.

Vitalis Ojode Retirement
Ojode’s retirement marks the conclusion of his distinguished 22-year tenure as a Director of the Company.
According to the Board, he has played a pivotal role in strengthening the Group’s financial governance and has been a long-serving member of the Audit and Risk Committee.
“The Board extends its sincere gratitude to him for his unwavering commitment and exemplary leadership throughout his tenure. We wish him continued success in all his future endeavours,” reads part of the notice.
