President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of the husband of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, George Wanga.
In a special gazette notice dated June 16 2025, President Ruto replaced George Wanga with Adan Haji Ali as the Chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 (1) (a) of the Energy Act. 2019, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act. I. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Adan Hair Ali to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 16th June, 2025. The appointment of George Wanga is revoked,” read the gazette notice.
Ruto Revokes Appointment of George Wanga
George Wanga was appointed as the non-executive Chairperson of EPRA by President William Ruto on January 17, 2025, for a three-year term, as announced in a gazette notice.

His tenure was cut short after serving for just four months. George Wanga’s appointment came at a time when President William Ruto was awarding several state positions to allies of ODM leader Raila Odinga as part of their broad-based alliance.
The newly appointed Chairperson of EPRA Adan Haji Ali was the former Mandera South MP elected under Jubilee party.
Adan Haji Career
He served as the Member of Parliament for Mandera South from 2017 to 2022. During his tenure, he was a member of the Departmental Committee on Agriculture and Livestock in the National Assembly.
Before joining politics, the former legislator served as the CEC for Tourism, Innovation, and ICT in the County Government of Kwale.

He also worked as the General Manager of Baobab Beach Resort from 1994 to 2013.
Adan Haji Ali holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Nairobi, earned in 2011. Prior to that, he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the same institution in 2009. He also holds a Diploma in Hotel Management from Kenya Utalii College, where he studied between 1990 and 1994.
His earlier education includes A-Level studies at Kabaa High School (1988–1989) and O-Level studies at Mawego Technical School (1984–1987).
