Austin Odhiambo Otieno, born December 16, 1999, in Siaya, Kenya, is a 25-year-old attacking midfielder currently playing for Gor Mahia FC and the Kenyan national team, Harambee Stars.
Family and personal life
Odhiambo grew up in Baba Dogo, Nairobi, and his early football development was closely tied to local youth setups rather than formal academic institutions.
He grew up with his elder brother, Tyson Otieno, who is also a footballer with Kenya Police but has struggled for gametime recently.
He had previous stints at Mathare United and Wazito FC and has been a motivator for Austin.
Career
Club career
Odhiambo’s football journey began with AFC Leopards, a prominent Kenyan club where he gained experience in the Kenyan Premier League.
He was scouted in 2016 by Boniface Ambani, a former Kenyan international, and Austin was later promoted to the AFC Leopards senior team during the 2019 Kenyan Premier League season.
Known for his technical flair, two-footed ability, and creative dribbling, Odhiambo quickly made an impression despite initial concerns about his attitude.
In October 2021, Odhiambo made a highly controversial move from AFC Leopards to Gor Mahia, Leopards’ arch-rivals.
Despite a reported Ksh10 million price tag placed on him by Leopards, Gor Mahia managed to sign him on a free transfer after he terminated his contract early.
At Gor Mahia, Odhiambo became a key playmaker for Gor Mahia, contributing significantly in goals and assists.

He helped Gor Mahia win a league title and domestic cup and was instrumental in their push for a record-extending 21st league crown.
International career
Austin Odhiambo made his senior debut in 2024 during the COSAFA Cup, scoring in his first match.
He also featured in AFCON 2025 qualifiers and the CHAN 2024 tournament, where he scored the winning goal against DR Congo.
His performances in the 2024 COSAFA Cup, which were streamed live on major platforms, have marketed his talent to a wider audience.
Future Prospects
With his current ever-rising form, Odhiambo may leave Gor Mahia for international opportunities unless the club secures better financial terms and continental success.

His talent and rising profile make him a prime candidate for overseas clubs, especially in African and Asian leagues, although in 2021, he missed a chance to join Swedish side Elfsborg.
He can play as a number 10, winger, or even secondary striker, offering flexibility admired by coaches and teammates alike.
Odhiambo believes Kenya must aim to win the CHAN 2024 tournament, especially since they’re co-hosting it with Uganda and Tanzania.
“We must have the aim of winning it. As players, we must have that winning mentality, and we will make Kenyans proud.”
His aspiration to play in Europe, a childhood dream, is driven by his impressive stats, which he hopes will procure a high-profile move abroad.
