The FIFA World Cup 2026 ended with Spain winning the trophy after edging Argentina 1-0 in the extra time.
Spain were awarded the trophy, which comes with a monetary prize of US$51 million, as well as group-stage and knockout-stage prizes.
The tournament also produced some of football’s biggest individual achievements, with FIFA rewarding players for outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
FIFA’s individual awards recognize excellence in different areas, including overall performance, goalscoring, goalkeeping, youth talent and discipline.
However, unlike the tournament prize money awarded to participating teams, the individual awards mainly come with official trophies, recognition and increased global reputation.
Golden Ball, Golden Boot and Golden Glove Awards
The most prestigious individual honour at the FIFA World Cup is the adidas Golden Ball, awarded to the best player of the tournament.

The winner is selected based on performance during the competition, including influence in matches, consistency, leadership, and contribution to the team’s progress.
For the 2026 tournament, Spain midfielder Rodri won the Golden Ball after playing a key role in Spain’s successful campaign since he was the team captain. Rodri has now added the Golden Ball and the World Cup trophies to his cabinet, including the Ballon d’Or, Champions League, and EPL.
Argentina’s Lionel Messi and France’s Kylian Mbappe won the Silver and Bronze Ball, respectively.
The Golden Ball winner receives the official trophy, but FIFA does not attach a separate cash payment to the award. The recognition can, however, increase a player’s commercial value through sponsorship opportunities, endorsements and improved contract negotiations.
The Adidas Golden Boot is awarded to the tournament’s top goalscorer. The Golden Boot is determined by goals scored during the competition.
In the 2026 World Cup, France forward Kylian Mbappé who is also the team’s captain, won the award after finishing as the tournament’s leading scorer with 10 goals and four assists. Mbappé has now won a back to back golden boot after also winning it in the 2022 World Cup.
Players who finish behind the top scorer receive the Silver Boot and Bronze Boot and for the 2026 tournament, Lionel Messi won the Silver Boot, followed by Jude Bellingham with the Bronze Boot .
Goalkeepers compete for the adidas Golden Glove, an award given to the best goalkeeper of the tournament. The winner is judged on factors such as saves, clean sheets, consistency and overall impact in matches. Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón received the honour after seven clean sheets in eight matches in the competition.
Young Player and Fair Play Awards
FIFA also recognizes emerging talent through the FIFA Young Player Award, which celebrates the best-performing player aged 21 or below during the World Cup.
Spain defender Pau Cubarsí won the 2026 FIFA Young Player Award after a breakthrough tournament that highlighted his defensive ability, composure and contribution to Spain’s title-winning run.
The award is designed to identify future stars of world football and becomes a major milestone in a player’s career. In the 2022 World Cup, Enzo Fernandez won the title,, and in in 2018 it was won by Kylian Mbappé.
The FIFA Fair Play Award is presented by McDonald’s to the national team with the best disciplinary record during the tournament.
It considers factors such as fewer yellow and red cards, respect for opponents, officials, and overall sporting behavior.

No Cash Prize for Individual FIFA Awards
FIFA’s individual World Cup awards do not come with direct prize money. Winners receive the official trophies and worldwide recognition.
The financial rewards linked to the World Cup are distributed through the tournament’s overall prize money structure, which is based on performance and awarded to national football associations.
For individual winners, the biggest benefits often come after the tournament through increased market value, sponsorship deals, media opportunities and stronger positions during club contract negotiations.
