Kenyans, fueled by a wave of youth-led protests against tax hikes imposed by the government, have escalated their efforts to hold politicians accountable by creating an AI tool.
BenwithSon, a Kenyan, developed an AI tool called Corrupt Politicians GPT, designed to retrieve information on historical corruption cases involving Kenyan politicians and government officials.
“I have created Corrupt Politicians GPT, which allows users to access scandals related to any politician. I’ve observed some leaders being promoted despite their corruption. Use the link below to access the GPT,” the creator wrote.
“The gpt is just browsing over the web and I have not grounded it with any information.”
How AI Tool ‘Corrupt Politicians GPT’ Works
Upon entering a politician’s name on the website, the platform generates a chronological list of corruption scandals.
It details each case and its outcomes from the oldest to most recent. The tool also indicates whether the politician faced prosecution or was acquitted of corruption charges.

Furthermore, the ChatGPT tool cites sources for each scandal and asks users to contribute missing information to enhance accuracy.
This isn’t the first instance of Kenyans using Artificial Intelligence to scrutinize government actions. They have actively utilized AI to clarify government policies and proposed regulations.
Other AI Tools Created by Kenyans
Another Kenyan also created a tool based on the popular artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT to help Kenyans understand the contentious Finance Bill 2024.
Dubbed ‘Finance Bill GPT’, the chatbot created by Kelvin Onkundi works similarly to how OpenAI’s ChatGPT operates, taking questions and generating text-based responses.
“If you want to further understand the Finance Bill and its implications, I have created the Finance Bill GPT, a GPT with up-to-date info on the Finance Bill, use it to understand the bill and ask any questions you may have,” he said.

Likewise, Marion Kavengi, created another AI tool SHIF GPT to provide a breakdown of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) that will replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
“Following in the footsteps of @NdemoKelvin in the positive use of AI, I have also created a SHIF GPT which breaks down the policy framework and new tariffs in SHIF. Registration is set to begin on 1st July, so use it to stay informed,” @Kavengi1 also shared on X.
These technological advancements highlight the growing role of AI in Kenyan political activism, empowering citizens to demand transparency and accountability from their leaders.
