The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure on a section of Mombasa Road.
In a notice published on Tuesday 25, November 2025, KeNHA noted that the disruption will take place between Nyayo National Stadium roundabout and Museum Hill Heritage on Sunday 30, November 2025, from around 6:00 am to 10:30 am to allow for the 21-Km Half Marathon in commemoration of AIDS Day 2025.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) between Nyayo National Stadium Roundabout and Museum Hill Interchange will experience trac disruption on Sunday November 30, 2025, from 6.00 am to 10.30 am,” read part of the notice.
Motorists have been urged to follow the proposed traffic management olan and cooperate with police and marshals on site.

Reasons for KeNHA Temporal Closure of Mombasa Road
According to the statement, the closure will be to allow for a 21-Km Half Marathon in celebration of World AIDS Day, 2025, an event which will take place on Sunday Morning.

World AIDS Day is an international day observed on December 1st each year to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS, honor those who have died from it, and show support for people living with HIV.
The first World AIDS Day was held in 1988, and it has since become one of the most widely recognized international health days, dedicated to promoting prevention, treatment, and care for those affected by the epidemic.
Alternative Roads to Use During Mombasa Road Closure
Despite this temporary road closure between Nyayo National Stadium Roundabout and Museum Hill Heritage, drivers approaching the CBD from Mombasa Road can to divert through Likoni road and Enterprise road, which offer smoother access into Landhies road and the eastern side of the city and those heading toward Upper Hill to use the Southern Bypass and connect through Lang’ata Road as motorists from Industrial area and South B use Jogoo Road to enter town.
Mombasa Road, also known as the Nairobi-Mombasa Road or A109 Road, is a significant highway in Kenya that stretches approximately 482 kilometers from Nairobi to Mombasa.

It is a vital component of the Northern Corridor, facilitating the movement of goods and people between the capital city and the coastal port city. Along its route, Mombasa Road passes through several counties, including Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Makueni, Taita-Taveta, Kwale, and Mombasa.
