The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released a weather forecast for regions expected to experience rainfall over the weekend.
In its five-day forecast covering Saturday, September 20, to September 24, 2025, released on Friday, September 19, the weatherman stated that, although most parts of the country are likely to be sunny and dry, rainfall is anticipated in some areas of the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley itself, and the Coast.
Strong southerly to south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) are also expected along the Coast (including Kenya’s territorial waters), the southeastern lowlands, northeastern, and northwestern Kenya.
Kenya Met Releases 5 Day Weather Forecast
According to the weatherman, regions of the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will experience sunny intervals in the mornings for most of the forecast period, except on Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21, when a chance of rain is expected in a few areas.
However, showers and thunderstorms are predicted to dominate the afternoons throughout the forecast period.
Nights are expected to be partly cloudy during the five-day forecast, except on Monday, September 22, and Tuesday, September 23, when a chance of showers in a few places is predicted.

Counties within these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
In the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its environs, Kenya Met predicts the weather will be cloudy, breaking into sunny intervals in the mornings throughout the forecast period, with afternoons generally sunny except on Tuesday, September 23.
Nights are expected to be partly cloudy, except on Monday and Tuesday, September 22 and 23, when chances of showers in some areas are forecasted.
Areas within this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties.
Northwestern Region
Elsewhere, in the northwestern region, including Turkana and Samburu counties, the weatherman predicts sunny intervals in the mornings will dominate the entire forecast except on Tuesday, September 23, when rain is possible in a few places.
Afternoons are expected to have sunny intervals, and nights are expected to be partly cloudy.
In the northeastern region, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, sunny intervals are expected to dominate mornings throughout the forecast period.
Afternoons will also generally have sunny intervals, except on Sunday, September 21, when some rain is possible in a few areas. Nights are forecasted to be cloudy.

In the southeastern lowlands, covering counties such as Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, Kenya Met predicts sunny intervals in both mornings and afternoons throughout the forecast period, with nights expected to be partly cloudy.
In the coastal region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, along with coastal parts of Tana River County, showers in a few places are expected to dominate mornings and afternoons during the entire forecast period, except on Wednesday, September 24, when sunny intervals are forecasted. Nights are expected to be cloudy.
