The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released the weekly weather forecast for February 10 to February 16, 2026. According to Kenya Met, Kenyans should prepare for another week of intense heat across many counties, even as isolated rainfall returns to several regions.

Most parts of the country will remain dry, but the weatherman has marked out the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South‑eastern Lowlands, and Western Kenya as the areas likely to receive rainfall.

Showers in these regions will be short, unevenly distributed, and mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Kenya Met Issues Weather Forecast

Kenya Met has stated that the rest of the country, including the Coast, North-eastern Kenya, and North-western Kenya, will remain largely dry, with long hours of sunshine and temperatures rising above 30 degrees Celsius.

In the Central Highlands, covering Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Meru, Laikipia, and Nairobi, mornings are expected to be largely sunny, with showers likely in the afternoon in some areas, especially in the high-altitude zones.

Nighttime conditions will be cool, with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in several locations.

The region will experience a mix of partly cloudy and clear conditions through the week.

In the Rift Valley, counties including Baringo, Nakuru, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Uasin-Gishu, West Pokot, and Narok will experience sunny intervals in the morning, with light rainfall possible in isolated areas.

Western sections of the Rift Valley are expected to see slightly higher rainfall chances, especially during the late afternoon.

Nighttime temperatures will remain low in several highland towns as clear skies allow rapid cooling.

Western Kenya and Coastal Counties

In the Lake Victoria Basin, counties including Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira will experience sunny conditions in the morning, followed by light showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Kisumu will experience mainly dry weather with a chance of isolated showers later in the forecast period.

Temperatures in the lakeside region will range between 15 and 31 degrees Celsius during the week.

Western Kenya, covering Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Trans-Nzoia, and surrounding areas, will experience a mix of sunny intervals and occasional rainfall.

Afternoon showers are expected in a few places, while nighttime showers may occur in isolated locations.

Kenya Met notes that the rainfall will be minimal and not persistent enough to mark any significant shift away from ongoing dry conditions.

In the South-eastern Lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta, mornings will be partly cloudy with a chance of light rainfall in a few areas, especially in the eastern zones.

Most of the region will experience sunny and hot afternoons, with temperatures climbing above 30 degrees Celsius in some counties.

Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, and Tana River, will experience sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights.

Light showers may occur in a few places in the morning or evening, though most locations will remain dry throughout the week.

High humidity levels will combine with high temperatures, increasing discomfort in coastal cities.

KMD Issues Warning

KMD warns that maximum temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius will dominate the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions.

Areas such as Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Lodwar, and Marsabit will be among the hottest, with Lodwar already recording 38.2 degrees Celsius during the previous week’s review.

The institution urges residents across the hottest regions to take precautions against heat-related stress, ensure adequate hydration, and limit extended exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours.
