Russia has set conditions for a peace deal with Ukraine amid the ongoing trilateral talks between the United States, Ukrainian, and Russian officials in Abu Dhabi.
According to a report by the Russian state news agency TASS, Moscow considers the recognition of the Donbas as Russian territory part of a potential peace agreement with Ukraine.
A Kremlin source close to the ongoing negotiations in Abu Dhabi told TASS that recognition of Donbass is extremely important as the parties explore the prospects of a peace deal to end the war.

The Russian delegation demanded the withdrawal of Ukraine’s troops from Donbas, including heavily fortified cities atop vast natural resources, as a precondition of any deal.
The two-day trilateral talks
The two-day trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi come as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Putin of violating an agreement organized by Trump that called for ceasing attacks on energy facilities.
Zelenskyy argued that the strikes on Kyiv’s energy system confirmed that attitudes in Moscow had not yet changed and that attacks were still being carried out.
“The strike confirms that attitudes in Moscow have not changed: they continue to bet on war and the destruction of Ukraine, and they do not take diplomacy seriously. The work of our negotiating team will be adjusted accordingly,” said Zelenskyy.

Trump, however, said President Vladimir Putin had kept his word on a weeklong promise not to hit the capital or critical energy facilities, adding that he was not disappointed that Putin did not extend the pause.
“It’s a lot, you know, one week, we’ll take anything, because it’s really, really cold over there,”
“I want him to end the war.”
The first round of meetings was held in the UAE in January, marking the first direct public negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv on a plan proposed by the Trump administration to end the war.
