U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader of Iran.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said he was “not happy” with the leadership choice but declined to reveal any details about potential U.S. responses.
“Not going to tell you. I’m not happy with him,” stated Trump
Mojtaba Khamenei assumed the position following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, in a transition that has drawn international attention and renewed scrutiny of U.S.-Iran relations.
In a media interview with the Post, Donald Trump added that he would not disclose any plans or strategies regarding Iran’s new leader.
Trump has previously characterized Mojtaba Khamenei as “unacceptable” and suggested that Iran’s leadership transition may have implications for regional stability.

Profile of Mojtaba Khamenei
Mojtaba Khamenei was born in 1969 in Mashhad and is the second son of the late Ali Khamenei.
He received his religious education at the Qom seminary, a centre of Shia theological study in Iran, and holds the clerical rank of Hojjatoleslam, a mid-level title in Shia Islam.
Before he was appointed Supreme Leader on March 8, 2026, by Iran’s Assembly of Experts, the clerical body responsible for selecting and supervising the Supreme Leader.
He never held an elected government position, but his close ties with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and conservative clerics have made him a powerful figure in the country’s political hierarchy.
In 2019, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Mojtaba, citing his role in supporting Iran’s leadership despite not holding a formal governmental office.
Trump on Ending the War Against Iran
In an interview with The Times of Israel, Trump said the decision to end the war with Iran would be a “mutual” one between himself and Netanyahu. While he clarified that the final decision would ultimately be his, the acknowledgment that Israel would play a role in determining the timing has drawn significant attention.
The statement comes as the United States and Israel continue coordinated strikes against Iranian targets, a campaign that began in late February amid rising tensions in the region.
Trump’s description of the decision-making process as collaborative reflects the close partnership between the United States and Israel. The two countries have long cooperated on intelligence sharing, defense planning, and regional security, particularly regarding Iran’s military and nuclear ambitions.
Trump further praised Netanyahu during the interview, saying the two leaders had worked closely together against Iran and claiming their partnership had prevented a major threat to Israel. Supporters say such remarks simply highlight the strength of a long-standing alliance, especially during a time of military conflict.

Iran attacks on Israel According to Gideon Behar
According to Israeli Ambassador to Kenya Gideon Behar, Israel has been under approximately three attacks by the proxies of Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas.
Additionally, numerous attacks have been launched against Israel on multiple accounts, and that is the reason why Behar affirms that Israel has a legitimate right to remain heavily armed.
Iranians are alleged to have been supplying billions of dollars to terrorist organizations in the Middle East to attack airports and energy infrastructure.
Some of the terrorist organizations included Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Houthis in Yemen, and Shiite militias in Iraq and Syria.
Attacks launched on Israel by the Iranians affected the civilians and the civilian infrastructure. The attacks, however, were anticipated by the Israeli government, but the attack on the Gulf state was a surprise.
Commenting on the ongoing Iranian attacks, the ambassador stated that Iran attacked 12 countries that had not participated in the war against Iran.
