The Ugandan Army has strongly dismissed remarks by U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch over General Muhoozi’s conduct.
In a social media post, Uganda’s Defense Spokesperson Chris Magezi defended its democratic mandate and warned against external intimidation.
He emphasized that Uganda and the U.S. share a long-standing partnership that will not be undermined by what he termed a “wayward” senator.

Magezi emphasized that Uganda is a ‘sovereign and independent country’ whose leadership was chosen through democratic elections. He also noted that President Museveni was recently re-elected with what he described as overwhelming public support.
The people of Uganda, expressing themselves in a free and fair democratic election, recently re-elected President Yoweri Museveni and other leaders to lead them for the next five years. It was an overwhelming mandate, in which the President obtained 72% of the electoral backing.
He further emphasized that the UPDF remains loyal to the President and to the decisions of Ugandan citizens.
“The UPDF pays allegiance to the President of the Republic of Uganda and the sovereign decisions made by the people,” he added.
Magezi condemned what he termed “threats and intimidation by a foreign power,” calling them outdated colonial tactics, and said that Uganda will vigorously resist
“Therefore, threats and intimidation by a foreign power in our country’s internal affairs is an outdated colonial tactic that will be vigorously resisted, especially coming from a so-called senator.
Magezi defended Uganda’s relationship, saying they had cooperation in several fields, including defense, health, and education, and that the relationship would not change in any way.

U.S. Senator Raises Alarm Over Muhoozi’s Conduct
Senator Jim Risch publicly criticized General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), over a series of provocative posts on social media.
In his statement, Risch accused the military chief of crossing “a red line” and warned that the United States may be forced to reassess its security partnership with Uganda. He suggested that possible measures could include sanctions and a review of military cooperation.
“Commander Muhoozi has crossed a red line, and now the U.S. must reevaluate its security partnership, which includes sanctions and military cooperation with Uganda, said” Risch.
On 30th January 2026, Muhoonzi posted on his X, accusing the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda of helping Bobi Wine escape. Muhoozi later issued an apology to the U.S., claiming that he had been fed incorrect information.
“I want to apologize to our great friends, the United States, for my earlier tweets that I have now deleted. I was being fed with wrong information. I have spoken with the US Ambassador to our country, and everything is okay. We are going to continue our military cooperation as usual,” said Muhoozi.
