According to the agency, candidates must complete the Uniformed Division Entrance Examination (UDEE) to be considered for the position.
However, those who fail the exam or fail to report must wait 3 months before reapplying and retesting, and only the first test score will be used, even if multiple job announcements are submitted.
Applicants who qualify must sign a four-year continued service agreement and maintain acceptable performance ratings to receive the incentive, which is paid in annual instalments after completing all required training and graduating from the Secret Service training school.
Additionally, the agency notes that some applicants may qualify for an exclusive employment event that could shorten the hiring process by up to 120 days.
Secret Service Announces Openings
According to the agency, candidates must meet the following requirements to qualify for the recruitment process.
- Be a U.S. citizen (by birth, parents, or naturalization).
- Possess a current, valid driver’s license (REAL ID compliant).
- Must be at least 20 years old at application and under 40 at referral (exceptions for federal law enforcement retirees).
- A candidate must submit to a pre-appointment drug test and undergo random testing during employment; all prior drug use must be disclosed.
- One must carry and maintain proficiency with a firearm.
- A male applicant born after Dec. 31, 1959, must certify Selective Service registration or exemption.
- A candidate must meet vision and hearing requirements: uncorrected vision 20/100, correctable to 20/20; hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in key ranges, and candidates must hear a whispered voice at 15 feet.
- Must obtain and maintain Top-Secret Clearance.
- They must use the official legal name on the application.
