Ukraine has faced another round of severe Russian attacks, with nearly 500 drones, a large number of “Shaheds” and 40 missiles, including Kinzhals that struck Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared the update on December 27, 2025, stating that the attack targeted energy facilities and civilian infrastructure, leaving parts of Kyiv without electricity and heating during the winter season.
Zelensky has also reported that residential buildings were damaged. Rescuers are working tirelessly to locate people trapped under rubble, according to the Ukrainian president.
“Another Russian attack is still ongoing: since last night, there have been almost 500 drones – a large number of “shaheds” – as well as 40 missiles, including Kinzhals,” read part of the statement by President Zelenskyy.
Putin Ignores Peace Proposals While Attacks Continue
The new round of airstrikes comes amid talks to expedite the implementation of the 20-point plan. The US and Ukrainian delegations met in Berlin on Sunday to discuss the peace plan and economic issues.
US special envoy Steve Witkoff, who was among the attendees of the meeting, shared that the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and delegations from both countries lasted over five hours.
On December 14, 2025, Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko revealed that Russia launched overnight drone and missile strikes across five regions, targeting critical energy and port infrastructure, which left over a million people without electricity.

Earlier on December 27, President Zelenskyy shared that Putin has no intention of ending the war, arguing that it was evident in the latest attack in the capital.
“So, where is Russia’s response to the proposals to end the war offered by the United States and the world? Russian representatives engage in lengthy talks, but in reality, Kinzhals and “shaheds” speak for them. This is the true attitude of Putin and his inner circle. They do not want to end the war and seek to use every opportunity to cause Ukraine even greater suffering and increase their pressure on others around the world. And this means that the pressure in response is still insufficient. If Russia turns even the Christmas and New Year period into a time of destroyed homes and burned apartments,” said Zelenskyy.
Urgent Call for Global Action and Air-Defense Support
The Ukrainian president stressed that the international community must respond with decisive measures.
Zelensky highlighted that supplies for air defense must be sufficient and delivered without delay to protect civilian lives amid Russia’s drone and missile attacks.

He expressed gratitude to all countries providing support and also assured that he wouldn’t stop the diplomatic efforts to end the war.
He added that he will discuss the matter with European leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump, to ensure Ukraine receives the defense support it urgently needs.
