The Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) has announced tender opportunity and invited bidders to take part in the process.
In a notice dated 15th July,2024, the authority invited interested bidders to apply for the opportunities to transport bagged fertilizers from Nairobi to various tea factories.
The authority further noted that its management services limited had finalized the importation process of 96,988 metric tons of bagged fertilizer for its managed tea factories.
“The process of importation of 96,988 MT of bagged fertilizer for its managed tea processing factories.
The first fertilizer consignment is expected to arrive in August 2024 or thereabout,” read part of the notice.
Additionally, KTDA stated that this was a follow up for the previous tender of bagged fertilizer from Nairobi to various KTDA managed tea factories (Tender Ref KTDA/066/24).

KTDA revises rates
This notice follows a review of the rates tendered among factories in different zones.
“After the review of various rates tendered, KTDA has approved a rate of Kshs 15.00 for factories in Zone A and Kshs 11.481 for factories in Zone B and C as detailed in the tender document.
The approved rate is per Tonne per Kilometer inclusive of VAT,” said KTDA.

KTDA stated that all interested bidders should meet the following requirements:
First, they should submit a list of trucks to be used for KTDA fertilizer transport in owner’s name or leased, copies of valid logbooks for the trucks listed in owner’s name or leased for each truck and a copy of the lease agreement.
Secondly, trucks to be used must have a carrying capacity of 15 tones and above and registered in Kenya under the owner’s or the company’s name.
Likewise, they should meet all government requirements on commercial motor vehicles e.g. 3rd party insurance cover, relevant licenses, vehicle tracking devices and speed governor.
Bidding
Lastly, a certificate of good conduct for the crew and fidelity guarantee covers through or validated by Majani insurance Brokers limited located at Chai house Koinange street, Nairobi is required.

The authority encouraged transporters who had previously participated in the tender and are willing to take up the new offers to collect and sign contract documents from the office the Head of Field services & Agriculture located in Majani plaza.
In addition, the authority clarified that it is not bound to contract with all or any transporter and will have the liberty to assign vehicles to any of its managed tea factory based on the workload.
