Questions have emerged over records at the Nairobi City mortuary which show that some of the bodies of victims killed in protests died under different circumstances and even locations.
For instance, Charles Owino who died in the Tuesday, July 16, protests in Kitengela was recorded as an accident victim in Juja.
According to the family, Owino was last seen in Kitengela according and was shot on the head during the protests.
They believed he was killed by the gunshot with a visible entry point on his body.
His body was picked up in Kitengela during the Tuesday protests.
His family arrived at the morgue on Wednesday, July 17, only to find that their kin had been recorded as an unidentified/unknown person from Juja.
Even though the family confirmed Owino’s identity, they were told that they must submit a police OB report for the government to conduct a post-mortem exam to determine the cause of death.
Other Wrongly Recorded Bodies at City Mortuary
Additionally, two bodies of victims of the protests were also recorded inaccurately.
According to the reports, one body was linked to mob justice, while the other was recorded to be as a result of an accident in Juja.

Family Asks Govt for Help
Meanwhile, the family of Charles Owino has appealed to the government to cover burial cost of their kin.
According to the family, the 19-year-old met his death when on his way to get medicine from a shop nearby.
The family said Owino had arrived in Kitengela on Sunday, July 14, from Kibra where he was staying with her sister.
They stated that Owino lost his way to a pharmacy during the intense clashes between the police and protesters and found himself in the demonstrations.
“The police opened fire from behind and the bullet caught my brother killing him on the spot,” the brother said.
His sister whom he was staying with in Kibra expected the diseased to return next week after his visit to Kitengela.
Owino has stayed in Kibra for only three weeks having arrived from Siaya County where he was a student.

4 More People Killed in Tuesday Demos
He was among the four people who were killed during the anti-government protests witnessed in different parts of the country on Tuesday, July 16.
The protests occurred in at least 23 of Kenya’s 47 counties including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kirinyaga, Kakamega, Migori, Kitui and Nakuru.
Other counties include Nyeri, Kisii, Homa Bay, Kericho, Baringo, Kajiado’s Kitengela, Embu, Makueni, Machakos, Turkana and Kilifi.
Two people died after being shot by police officers during protests in Kibwezi, Makueni County while one person was shot dead at Moi Avenue in Nairobi CBD.
