A suspect is on the run after escaping from police custody during a night operation in the Flamingo area of Nakuru East sub-county.
The late-night raid, conducted on August 11 by police officers in collaboration with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), targeted two homes believed to be linked to the illicit drug trade.
According to NACADA operations officer Nicholas Koskwi, the drug lord, well-known in the area, fled the scene, leaving behind his wife.
Consequently, the officers arrested the wife of the suspect and locked her away as she awaits arraignment in court.
However, officers confiscated assorted rolls of bhang and cookies believed to be laced with bhang during the operation.
We raided two homesteads and managed to confiscate assorted rolls of bhang and some cookies believed to be made from the substance of bhang, on the floor. We arrested a lady, the wife of a notorious trafficker, and necessary action will be taken.

Manhunt Launched for Nakuru Drug Lord
NACADA and the police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, warning him to surrender immediately.
Additionally, the NACADA officials are calling on residents to provide information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest, explaining that community cooperation is key in ending drug networks.
The operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on the supply and consumption of illegal drugs in Nakuru County.
According to the NACADA officer, the area has seen rising cases of narcotics abuse among the youth.
“We are warning him. He either surrenders to law enforcement officers so that he can be vetted and arraigned in court.
“We encourage the public to volunteer any information to help us with such cases and have a society free from drugs,” Nicholas Koskwi, NACADA operations officer added
The confiscated substances have been taken for further testing as the arrested woman awaits arraignment.

NACADA Proposed Ban on Alcohol
The raid comes in the backdrop of proposed laws over the sale of alcohol by NACADA, including the restriction of alcohol advertising, online sales, home deliveries, and celebrity endorsements, which are policy proposals and not binding laws.
The proposals were listed under the newly launched National Policy for the Prevention, Management, and Control of Alcohol, Drugs, and Substance Abuse (2025).
The policies aim to reduce alcohol and drug abuse in Kenya, especially among the youth, by strengthening prevention, control, and rehabilitation strategies.
