The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of Kanyenyaini Member of County Assembly (MCA) Grace Nduta, popularly known as “City” hours after she was reported missing.
DCI in a statement on Thursday, May 29 evening stated that Nduta was arrested on Wednesday in connection with what they described as the “stage-managed abduction” of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi.
According to investigations, the MCA is said to have spent the “entire night” of May 25, 2025, with MP Koimburi at a bar in Gatundu South when the lawmaker had claimed that he had been abducted.
Detectives said that surveillance and evidence placed Nduta at Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South—in the company of the very man who was supposedly missing, contrary to her account that she was in Kangema attending church services and political rallies on the day in question.
“It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night.”

Irungu Kang’ata speaks on the arrest of Murang’a MCA Grace Nduta
Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata had onThursday said that he visited the police station where Nduta was reported to have been held, but did not find her.
“Hon City MCA Kanyenyaini Kangema has been picked up by unknown persons. Unconfirmed reports had suggested she is in Samuru Police Post, Gatanga. I have visited the post to no avail. The county will endeavour to trace her, particularly because of her beloved children,” said Kang’ata.
Nduta’s arrest came a day after DCI boss Mohammed Amin said investigators had recovered a private vehicle used in the MP Koimburi’s alleged abduction, a Subaru Forester, on Tuesday in Juja.
On Wednesday, the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja while issuing a further update on the alleged abduction said that three additional individuals were arrested and provided statements, which have offered leads and further insights into the case.
The three, according to the police boss, include Juja Constituency CDF Chairman Peter Kiratu, Cyrus Kieru Muhia and Karanja Gatana.
According to the IG, the Juja CDF Chairman stated that on May 25, 2025, he attended a church service at Full Gospel Church, Mugutha, with MP Koimburi where a silver Subaru Forester Reg. KBP 096W approached the main entrance before two heavily built men bundled the MP into the vehicle.
Kiratu is said to have reported the incident at Mugutha Police Station. A day later, the Juja CDF chairman said that he received a call from the MP Koimburi’s daughter, Wanjiru, informing him that the lawmaker had been found in a coffee farm in Juja.

Kanja added that Kiratu reported that they then took the MP to Plainsview Hospital, Ruiru, for first aid before he was referred to Karen Hospital for further treatment.
Further, the police boss said that Koimburi’s ally Cyrus Kieru Muhia, who runs a supermarket at Kahawa West Area, stated that on May 24, he received a call from the CDF Chairman requesting the use of his Subaru Forester Reg. No. KDG 803B to transport additional security personnel for the MP during an event at Full Gospel Church, Mugutha, which he agreed.

Investigations have revealed that Kiratu instructed Muhia to go to his homestead in Mugutha, where he met a man named Gatana (driving Kiratu’s vehicle, Reg. No. KBP 096W) Honda CRV along with three unknown men before “they proceeded to the church to familiarise themselves with the route before returning”.
“Later, Kiratu called and instructed him to drive his Subaru Forester with two men towards the church. Upon arrival, the two men exited quickly, and he heard screams as the MP was forced into the vehicle,” part of the statement adds.
“They drove towards Jacaranda Coffee Research via Kambogo Road, where the MP instructed them to stop near a waiting Honda CRV (Reg. No. KBP 096W), belonging to Kiratu. Cyrus was left with the two men, who warned him not to disclose any information to the police.”
NPS says Koimburi spent night with his “abductors” and was helped to tear clothes
IG Kanja said that police have managed to recover two vehicles, the Honda CRV and the Subaru Forester, silver in colour.
Additionally, Karanja Gatana, another suspect, has been arrested.
The IG said that “Gatana admitted to dropping the MP at a hotel where he had refreshments and spent the night with the two abductors on May 25, 2025, following the alleged abduction”.
“He added that, on 26 May 2025, while using Kiratu’s vehicle, he picked up the MP from the hotel and took him to the scene where they claimed he had been dumped. Before the MP exited the vehicle, he helped him tear his clothes to fake evidence of torture by the alleged abductors,” IG Kanja added.
