Julius Sunkuli Lekakeny is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament for Kilgoris Constituency, having been re-elected on 8 August 2022 under the KANU party.
He previously represented the Kilgoris Constituency, Narok County, in the National Assembly of Kenya between 1992 and 2002.
Sunkuli is a legislator, advocate, and magistrate with over 25 years of experience in the legal profession.

Julius Sunkuli began his education at St. Joseph Sosio Primary School from 1969 to 1975, where he earned his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE).
Thereafter, he joined Kilgoris Secondary School between 1976 and 1979, where he earned his Kenya Certificate of Education.
He proceeded to the University of Nairobi, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1986.
Later, Julius Sunkuli obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law in 1988.
Afterwards, he pursued a Master of Laws (LLM) from De Montfort University in the United Kingdom between 2016 and 2018.
Career Information
Julius Sunkuli started his legal career in the Judiciary, serving as a magistrate from 1988 to 1992.
He entered politics in 1992, winning the Kilgoris parliamentary seat.
During his political career in President Moi’s administration, he served as an Assistant Minister from 1992 to 1997 and later as Cabinet Minister in the Office of the President from 1998 to 2002, including a period as Minister of State for Defence.
In 2002, Julius Sunkuiya vied for the Member of Parliament seat, which he lost.
After leaving Parliament in 2002, he returned to private practice as an advocate at Sunkuli & Company Advocates.
Between 2008 and 2012, he served as Kenya’s Ambassador to China.
Sunkuiya also resigned from the Narok County senator’s seat in the 2013 general election.
He later resumed legal practice until his successful return to Parliament in 2022.
