In an act of generosity, a pharmacy student from Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Manza Campus offered assistance to a fellow student in need.
Rashid Abdi, who is currently sitting his final qualifying exams, donated Ksh10,000 on June 26, 2025, to a fellow pharmacy student who has been facing financial hardships.
“I thought of doing something for one of my comrades who is an orphan and has been having a hard time,” said Abdi.
The donation was handed over in the presence of the Campus Principal, Winfred Nguih, and the Deputy Director of Academics, Dr. Nyamira Mwangi, who both lauded the gesture as timely and compassionate.

Abdi, who hails from Eastleigh, Nairobi, said he was raised with strong values of generosity.
“My parents always encouraged us to give. Religion, too, reminds us of the power of supporting others,” he noted.
Abdi has already begun mobilizing friends to organize a fundraiser aimed at supporting other financially struggling students on campus.
His act of kindness comes just a day before the official launch of a major alumni-led campaign to support needy KMTC students. The initiative, launched on June 27, 2025, is part of the College’s broader strategy to address student financial challenges.

Students to Access Helb Loans
Recently, KMTC secured a Ksh500 million allocation from the government to be disbursed through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
The allocation captured in the April 2025 Supplementary Budget is meant, in the short term, to ease the financial burden faced by many students and to ensure continuity in their medical training.
In addition, the institution has established a central fund to pool donations from alumni, well-wishers, and institutions.
The newly launched alumni campaign aims to boost this effort by encouraging former students to contribute to a dedicated fund that ensures no student is left behind due to financial constraints.

Raising Funds
In recent months, the college intensified efforts to mobilize financial support for needy students. These efforts included establishing a dedicated student funding kitty and actively engaging alumni by encouraging them to contribute towards supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Students enrolled at KMTC pursuing certificates and diploma courses are eligible for the HELB fund and students have been encouraged to apply.
