Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has weighed in on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recent apology to former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
Speaking on a Daily breakfast TV show, the Senior Counsel noted that DP Gachagua’s apology to Mama Ngina Kenyatta was not sincere and genuine.
He further pointed out that the Deputy President was facing a myriad of backlash from his own backyard- The Mt. Kenya region and needed the support and influence of the first family including Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I don’t think DP Gachagua’s apology is independent or contrite. The push for his replacement is gaining traction and for that he needs all the friends that he can gather. If that friend includes Uhuru Kenyatta, much the better for him,” he said.
Gachagua Apology Not Independent
Amollo pointed out that Gachagua’s apology seemed to be a strategic move prompted by the challenges he is facing in Mt. Kenya region.
“The apology from DP Gachagua doesn’t appear to be genuine. It seems to be driven more by political expediency rather than a sincere acknowledgment of any wrongdoing,” Amollo remarked during the interview.

Similarly, he highlighted the growing discontent within the Mt. Kenya region regarding leadership issues, with some factions advocating for Gachagua’s replacement by figures such as Ndindi Nyoro or Moses Kuria.
Otiende Amollo elaborated on the challenges facing Gachagua’s leadership in the Mt. Kenya region, citing concerns over taxation policies and the government’s approach to tackling issues like illicit alcohol.
He noted that the burden of over taxation was particularly harsh on business owners in the region, exacerbating economic challenges.
Additionally, the heavy-handed crackdown on illicit alcohol had met resistance from local communities, leading to the closure of numerous businesses without due consideration.

He argued that UDA lawmakers were attempting to shift blame and confuse the public about the true causes of economic hardships under the current administration led by President William Ruto.
“The actions of UDA lawmakers, including Ndindi Nyoro, are disingenuous and aimed at obfuscating the real issues facing Kenyans,” Amollo asserted.
As such, Amollo underscored the need for transparency and accountability in parliamentary proceedings, condemning what he perceived as rushed and uninformed decision-making by certain Kenya Kwanza legislators.
