Murathe Advises Raila on How to Counter Ruto Regime

Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe has said the Azimio One Kenya Alliance cannot control the operations of the government.

Speaking on Spice FM on Thursday, November 30, Murathe explained that it was upon President William Ruto to decide on the ideal policies to implement his agenda.

“Even as we address the issues around the cost of living, the opposition cannot tell the government how to go about their business,” he said.

Further, Murathe said the opposition should not even tell the government how much tax to charge on different items.

“It is not our business as the opposition to tell the government what to tax and what not to tax,’ he said.

“That is their business, it is their agenda. They say the things they want to do, and this is their taxation measure to realize them.”

According to Murathe, the opposition can only go to court to challenge some of the decisions made by the government.

“If they are not happy, there are ways to redress. For example, the issue of housing thing people went to court and if there are fundamental wrongs, they will rewrite it,” stated Murathe.

Murathe on Ruto’s Win

However, the Jubilee Vice Chairperson said that he accepted that Ruto won the polls and they have been making efforts to know how he defeated opposition leader Raila Odinga.

According to him, it was “impossible mathematically and logically” for Ruto to win the presidency in the last general elections.

“We tried to figure out exactly what happened, it was not until the other day our friend Moses Kuria told us how they did it with a little help from their European friends and the Americans,” he said.

Murathe tells Ruto to quit the blame game

Murathe then went on to call out President Ruto’s administration over their continued blaming of the past government. 

He noted that Ruto was new in government and that he was aware of every situation in his position as the then Deputy President under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime. 

He further mentioned Leader of Majority Kimani Ichung’wah noting that he was the chairman of the budget for the longest, and Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale who was then then majority leader.

“These guys have always been part of the government, Ruto transcended from a deputy president to president,” stated Murathe.

“When he went to Kasarani he went in as a DP and came out as president. Then you have people telling us about the previous regime.”

Regarding the report prepared by the National Dialogue Commitee, the politician affirmed that members of his coalition were unhappy with some aspects of the outcome.

Murathe on government’s response to economic constraints

Murathe accused the government of being insensitive to the things affecting the people among them the high cost of living.

“We have gotten to a point where it will not be us who will call for demonstrations, it will be the people and they will call us to join them,” he stated.

In his interview, Murathe posed a question asking how Uhuru manage run the country’s affairs and even made significant strides in infrastructure in this country with hiking taxes.

“More roads that all the other four presidents combined, more electricity connectivity, he was able to bring down VAT, he was able to pay external debts, the shilling and the fuel prices were paid,” the politician averred.

“Uhuru did not complain about paying Kibaki debts, I spoke to CBK Governor about Eurobond, and he was the National Treasury PS when this Eurobond was happening.”

The Jubilee Party politician was speaking in public for the first time in a while after going low-key since the 2022 general elections.
