Born on January 7, 1945, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga celebrated his 79th birthday on Sunday.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party shared photos of Raila’s birthday cakes with messages crafted to express discontent with some of President William Ruto’s policies.
The cakes showed that Raila wanted the government to cut the rate of Value Added Tax charged on fuel, the housing levy, cut turnover tax and food package tax.
Besides, the cake was split into three parts with ODM sitting at the top, Jubilee Party in the middle and Azimio at the bottom.
The parts are colored orange, red and blue respectively in line with each of the parties’ symbols and colors setting the stage for an eventful celebration.
Mistakes on Raila’s birthday Cake
However, X users were quick to identify and correct mistakes on Raila’s birthday date displayed on the cakes.
On one of the cakes, the bakers indicated that Raila was born on January 7, 1964, instead of the actual 1945.
“When was he born? 1964????” asked Samuel Ashitiba- a social meedia user.
“Why does 1964-2024 sounds fake news? Poor in maths,” replied another user named Sniper.
A section of the users condemned the designers for their labeling on one of the cakes.

They argued that the indication that the cake celebrates Raila from 1964 to 2024 could be misinterpreted.
“What’s 7th Jan 1964 – 2024?? Are you trying to predict the impossible,” asked ORINA LvG.
“I was coming to ask the same thing. Plus, when you put a date on the end aren’t you closing the “chapter”? Ama I am overthinking?” asked Elizabeth.
Others also questioned why the Wiper Party was not included in the coalitions party cake.
Other Reactions
However, another user named Balaseth hailed the idea and information contained in the cakes.
He said the demands made by Raila will change during the 2027 elections if Ruto fails to listen.
“I love it, brilliant mind. If only Ruto can heed the call, then Kenya will be a paradise. If not, then those things must be on the ballot come 2027,” said Balaseth.
