International hacker and activist group, Anonymous, has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto and Members of Parliament (MPs) regarding the contentious Finance Bill 2024.
In a message shared on their official X account, Anonymous stated that they have become aware of discussions in parliament to pass the Finance Bill, which they believe will unfairly tax the citizens of Kenya.
The group criticized the proposed measures, including increased VAT on essential goods, higher excise duties on fuel, and new levies on mobile money transactions.
Anonymous also condemned the government’s response to peaceful demonstrations by Kenyans against the bill, stating that these efforts have been met with harassment and arrests from the police.
“Kenyans attempting peaceful demonstrations are being harassed, arrested and shot at with live bullets by the police force under your command,” Anonymous stated.

Anonymous Issues Warning to Members of Parliament
The group warned that with the phone numbers of some MPs circulating online, their secrets may soon be made public.
Furthermore, Anonymous threatened that there will be an “uprising of hackers” who may reside in Kenya and expose the legislators’ confidential information.
“Fortunately, several phone numbers belonging to members of parliament are circulating online. Soon, there will be an uprising of hackers, many of whom may reside in your home country.”

“Your secrets may no longer be safe, and there is a chance that all these secrets will be exposed,” warned Anonymous.
Anonymous urged the Kenyan lawmakers to listen to the cries of their citizens and reject the Finance Bill in its entirety, rather than attempting to amend it.
“On Thursday, the 20th of June, Kenyans will march and #OccupyParliament. We do not want you to amend the Finance Bill; we want you to reject it.”
“Listen to the cries of your citizens, or the people of the world will resist you every step of the way,” said the group.
They concluded their message with a rallying cry, stating, “Citizens of Kenya, do not worry, Tuko Pamoja. We are Anonymous, we are Legion, expect us!”
