The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has announced the untimely death of Jackline Musyoki, a respected Mathematics and Business Studies teacher at St. Mary’s Kinyambu Secondary School.
Jackline Musyoki lost her life in a fatal road accident while traveling home from her dowry ceremony in Kitui County, an event that was meant to mark the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
Tragic accident
The accident, which occurred on the evening of Saturday, has also claimed the lives of Jackline’s young daughter, her mother-in-law, and another woman believed to be her sister-in-law.
The family was returning from the traditional dowry payment ceremony in preparation for Jackline Musyoki’s wedding, which was scheduled to take place this coming Sunday.
The news has sent shockwaves through the education fraternity in Kibwezi and beyond, with colleagues, students, and parents mourning the loss of a teacher described as dedicated, passionate, and deeply committed to her profession.

Speaking on behalf of the teachers of Kibwezi, Assistant Executive Secretary of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Mr. Festus Muthoka, expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident.
“It is with deep sadness and shock that we have received the news of the passing of Madam Jackline Musyoki. Her death, along with that of her daughter and other family members, is a heartbreaking loss not only to her immediate family but to the entire teaching fraternity.”
“Madam Musyoki was a pillar at St. Mary’s Kinyambu, where she taught with excellence and inspired many students. Her passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill. On behalf of all teachers in Kibwezi, I extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Moki, the students, staff, board, and parents of St. Mary’s Kinyambu.”
Friends and colleagues who had attended the dowry ceremony just hours before the tragedy have reported struggling to come to terms with the loss, after the accident cast a dark cloud over what was supposed to be a joyful celebration of love and union.
Students at St. Mary’s Kinyambu have described Madam Musyoki as a mentor and role model who went above and beyond to ensure their academic success.
Her colleagues at St. Mary’s Kinyambu remember her as a warm, intelligent, and hardworking educator whose impact will be felt for years to come.

NTSA Reports
According to The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and police reports, around 50 people have died in major road crashes across Kenya over just the past few days.
This grim toll comes from several fatal accidents between late last week and early this week, including:
- Kisumu–Kakamega Highway crash (Aug 8, 2025) – 25 killed when a bus carrying mourners overturned.
- Naivasha train–bus collision (Aug 7, 2025) – at least 4 dead.
- Kitengela crash (Kajiado County) – 7 killed in a two-vehicle collision.
- Namanga Road accident – 7 killed when a matatu collided with a lorry.
- Several smaller but still deadly crashes were reported in Bomet, Machakos, and Uasin Gishu counties.
Officials are warning that the spike in fatalities could surpass average weekly accident deaths, and they’re urging stricter enforcement of traffic laws, especially against speeding, drunk driving, and reckless overtaking.
