The Beacon is owned and developed by the Kiloran Development Group, a United Kingdom–based real estate developer with a portfolio spanning retail, residential, and commercial projects.
The firm is known for its investment in sustainable developments that integrate functionality, art, and lifestyle.
Kiloran Development Group partnered with local consultants and contractors to bring the project to life, creating a synergy between international architectural standards and Kenya’s fast-growing real estate sector.
Founders and Architects
The architectural vision behind Beacons Mall was led by the British firm aLL Design, co-founded by the late award-winning architect Will Alsop.
Alsop was internationally recognized for its unconventional, vibrant, and playful designs that redefined urban aesthetics.
Designed in 2018, The Beacon became Alsop’s first major project in Africa, encapsulating its philosophy of combining functionality with artistic expression.
The design features bold façades, fluid forms, and open social spaces, embodying a spirit of creativity and inclusiveness.
Following Alsop’s passing, his team at aLL Design continued to oversee the implementation of his vision, ensuring the structure maintained its architectural integrity and environmental sustainability standards.

History and Development Timeline
The Beacons Mall project received planning approval in 2018, with construction initially scheduled for completion by 2020.

The development was scheduled for completion in the second or third quarter of 2020, with the initial vision to create Africa’s first project by Alsop, as well as one of the largest malls in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.
The site covers approximately 28,500 square meters off Uhuru Highway near the Bunyala Road roundabout, positioning it strategically within the city’s Upper Hill business district.
Despite early delays, construction progressed steadily, and by 2025, the mall was completed and became operational.
