WINNIE ODINGA IRMGARD

NAME WINNIE ODINGA IRMGARD
AGE 35 YEARS
GENDER FEMALE
OCCUPATION POLITICIAN, COMMUNICATION STRATEGIST

Winnie Odinga is a Kenyan politician, communications strategist, and entrepreneur, best known as the youngest daughter of the late Raila Odinga and a rising voice in East African politics.

Early Life

Winnie Irmgard Odinga was born on March 6, 1990, in Nairobi, Kenya, as the youngest child of the late Raila Amollo Odinga, Kenya’s former Prime Minister, and Ida Odinga, an educator and activist.

Named after Winnie Mandela, the South African anti-apartheid icon, Winnie was introduced to political consciousness early.

At age 11, her mother gifted her a biography of Winnie Mandela, which profoundly influenced her views on justice, leadership, and resilience.

Due to a significant age gap between her and her siblings—Fidel Odinga, Rosemary Odinga, and Raila Odinga Jr.—Winnie spent much of her childhood alone.

She has described herself as her father’s closest companion, often serving as his driver, aide, and confidante during political campaigns.

Education

Winnie Odinga began her formal education at Rusinga School in Nairobi, where she completed her primary education.

She then proceeded to Brookhouse International School, also in Nairobi, for her secondary education.

For her higher education, she moved to the United States and enrolled at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Corporate Communication in 2009.

During her time at university, she developed a strong interest in technology, innovation, and political communication.

Winnie Odinga returned to Kenya and pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2016 at the United States International University (USIU) in Nairobi.

Career

After returning from university abroad, Winnie Odinga joined her father, Raila Odinga’s, political machine as a close aide. She managed logistics, coordinated digital campaigns, and often served as his driver and confidante during high-stakes elections.

“I’ve worked for him for as long as I can remember. It’s a job like any other,” Winnie said in a past interview.

Her nickname, “Kazi,” given by her sister Rosemary, reflected her relentless energy and hands-on approach to political work.

In 2008, Winnie Odinga launched The BrickHouse Counsel, a Nairobi-based strategic communications firm.

The company quickly gained recognition, advising political campaigns across Africa and working with international clients like Everton FC.

Her work positioned her as a key player in digital strategy and political branding.

In 2022, she was elected to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), representing Kenya.

Backed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), her appointment marked a significant step in her public career.

At EALA, she focuses on digital rights, regional integration, and youth representation, continuing her push for a more connected and equitable East Africa.

Net Worth

Winnie has not publicly disclosed detailed financial statements.

Winnie Odinga has stated that her primary source of income is her digital communications firm, The BrickHouse Counsel, rather than her role as a Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

“I do this side gig where I am the youngest female MP for Kenya in the East African Legislative Assembly. I earn most of my income from my digital communications company, The BrickHouse Counsel.”

Specific salary figures from The BrickHouse Counsel have not been publicly disclosed.

However, as an EALA MP, Winnie earns a monthly salary of Ksh1.4 million.

In addition to the salary, EALA MPs are entitled to:

  • High-end official vehicles provided by their respective governments
  • Travel and accommodation allowances for official duties across East African Community (EAC) member states
  • Committee allowances for participation in legislative and oversight functions

These benefits are part of the standard remuneration package for EALA legislators, who serve five-year terms and are elected by their national parliaments.
