The United States (US) President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of air and naval forces to the Southern Caribbean Sea to counter threats from Latin American drug cartels.
According to a Reuters report on Thursday, August 14, two sources briefed on the decision.

US Begins Deployment of Naval Assets
According to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Defense Department has now begun ordering the deployment of US air and naval assets to the Southern Caribbean Sea.
Trump’s administration has been strategizing to limit migration and strengthen the US southern border.
In recent months, the administration has already deployed at least two warships in support of border security and counter-narcotics operations.
“This deployment is aimed at addressing threats to U.S. national security from specially designated narco-terrorist organizations in the region,” one source told Reuters.
In February, the Trump administration designated Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel and other drug trafficking groups, including Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua criminal network, as global terrorist organizations
The designations came as the White House tightened immigration enforcement targeting alleged gang members.

Homeland Security on Gang Member Arrests Under the Trump Administration
In a report issued on August 12, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said it has taken more than 350 criminal illegal alien gang members off the streets in the Houston area in just the first six months of the Trump administration.
The number of arrests tripled in the same timeframe under President Biden.
According to ICE figures, 356 gang members were arrested between January and June, marking a 375% jump compared to the 75 arrested during the first half of Biden’s term.
Moreover, officials said the suspects were linked to over 1,600 criminal offenses, ranging from murder and child sex crimes to sex trafficking, arson, and theft.
The arrests targeted members from more than 40 gangs, including MS-13, Tren de Aragua, Latin Kings, Paisas, and Tango Blast.
“Thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem, these illegal alien gang members are off America’s streets,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
