Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Kajiado West Member of Parliament George Sunkuyia over allegations of forging his KCSE certificate.
The lawmaker was taken to EACC headquarters in Nairobi for processing ahead of his arraignment.
George Sunkuyia has served as the MP for Kajiado West since 2017, initially elected under the Jubilee Party and later aligning with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) following political shifts.
The KCSE certificate is a pivotal academic qualification in Kenya, often required for eligibility in higher education and certain professional roles, including political office.

According to the Kenyan Parliament website, his educational background includes a degree in Community Development & Social Work from Mount Kenya University, though the authenticity of his academic credentials is now under scrutiny

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has been facing forgery allegations since 2013, charged with forging his KCSE certificate and other academic documents, including a school leaving certificate from Highway Secondary School.
Testimonies from school principals, such as Patrick Maritim (principal from 2010–2019), confirmed Sudi was not a student at the claimed schools, with index numbers belonging to others.
He was acquitted in 2024 by a Nairobi anti-corruption court due to insufficient evidence.
Former IEBC Manager Caroline Sabiri Manyange was also charged in court for forgery of academic certificates and arraigned on October 14,2024.
The certificate, specifically a Master of Arts (Population Studies) degree certificate purportedly from the University of Nairobi, used on April 4, 2012, to secure employment and promotion at IEBC.
Investigations established she earned over Ksh37 million in salary and benefits, constituting fraudulent acquisition of public property.
Manyange pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the case is ongoing.
In January 2025, another senior IEBC official, Kenneth Kiplangat Tonui, faced charges for allegedly forging a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate to obtain employment as a driver.
Over a span of approximately 13 years, Tonui is accused of fraudulently acquiring salaries totaling Sh9,281,655.
He was charged with multiple counts, including forgery, and was released on bail pending trial.

Recently, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved the prosecution of four staff members of the IEBC were on 4th March approved for multiple criminal charges, including forgery.
EACC established that the four, including three assistant election officers and a clerical officer, had presented forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates to fraudulently obtain their positions.
Total salaries earned fraudulently range from Ksh11M to Ksh13M per individual, with recommendations for civil suits to recover these amounts.
EACC have insisted the urgent need for enhanced vetting processes, possibly involving real-time checks with educational institutions like KNEC, and stricter penalties to restore integrity in Kenya’s public sector.
