Several students from Mbooni Girls High School have been injured and rushed to hospital following a grisly road accident involving a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) that they were travelling in.
The students got injured in the Saturday June 27, morning accident after the bus belonging to Tawala Sacoo overturned at Kali area of Mbooni in Makueni County, along Kikima – Machakos road.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the motor vehicle’s driver lost control before it swerved on the road and overturned leading to the injuries.
Preliminary reports indicate that the bus was moving from Mbooni towards the Machakos general direction.
Photos seen by The Kenya Times (TKT) showed the bus damaged with its front windscreen shuttered.
By the time of publishing, it wasn’t clear how many occupants were in the motor vehicle during the incident, and the extent of injuries they sustained.
Mbooni Girls Students involved in accident
A rescue team was quickly dispatched to the scene, which in turn helped to evacuate the students trapped inside the wreckage following the incident. On the other hand, well-wishers helped rush the victims to the hospital for medication.
“The injured persons have been rushed to Kikima and Machakos Level 5 hospitals in Makueni and Machakos respectively for medication,” an eyewitness said while speaking to the press.

Also, the accident resulted in a huge traffic snarl-up along the steep highway. Police officers were yet to arrive at the scene of the tragedy at the time of publishing.
Meanwhile, a 3-year-old schoolgirl has been confirmed dead after being hit by a speeding boda-boda in Kisii County at the Itumbe- Igare road junction on Friday.
Eyewitnesses said that the minor was walking alongside her mother as the two walked along the side of the road.
Unfortunately, the boda-boda rider lost control while negotiating a corner, knocking down the minor and killing her instantly.
The Friday afternoon incident caused fear and panic as business at Itumbe Market went into a standstill for three hours.
Following the accident, the deceased’s relatives reported the matter at Itumbe Police Station where the officers took the body to Ogembo Municipal Hospital Mortuary for postmortem pending further investigation.
Road Crashes
The two incidents are among road crashes that have been reported in the recent days. Earlier this week, another grisly road accident which happened at Duka Moja along Oliotoktok-Emali Road in Kajiado County claimed the lives of several tourists as others sustained serious injuries.

National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson Dr. Resila Onyango while confirming the incident stated that the tourists were on their way from a Safari at the Amboseli National Park.
Dr. Resila further said that the crash occurred when the rear left wheel of the Toyota Landcruiser that the tourists were travelling in unfortunately detached itself from the axle.
In turn, the driver lost control of the vehicle veering off the road, leading to the tragic crash.
Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reveals that a total number of 2,407 people have died on Kenyan roads since January 1, 2024, as of July.
NTSA highlighted pedestrians as the most vulnerable road users amounting to 919 fatalities, followed by motorcyclists with 555 deaths, passengers at above 300, pillion passengers at 199 and drivers at 210.
