A grisly road accident has claimed the lives of several tourists as others sustained serious injuries. The accident happened at Duka Moja along Oliotoktok-Emali Road in Kajiado County.
Confirming the incident, National Police Service Spokesperson Resila Onyango stated that the tourists were on their way from a Safari in the Amboseli National Park.
Unfortunately, the rear left wheel of the Toyota Landcruiser they were travelling in detached itself from the axle. The driver lost control of the vehicle veering off the road, leading to the tragic crash.
“As a result, the vehicle veered off from the road and overturned,” the police report read in part.

Police Reveal Number of Fatalities and Nationalities After Accident
Out of the six tourists onboard the Landcruiser, three Chinese nationals including, two males and a female, succumbed due to the injuries sustained from the crash.
Further, the police report noted that the tourists were rushed to Kilome Nursing and Maternity Hospital in Emali where they died.
At the same time, three other tourists who were also in the vehicle, were rushed to the same hospital where they are recuperating from injuries sustained.
Moreover, the wreckage of the vehicle has been towed to Mashuuru police station where investigations into the case has begun.

Elephant Attacks and Kills Tourist
In a separate incident in March 30, an 80-year-old United States (US) woman died following an aggressive elephant attack.
The elephant overturned a safari van she and other tourists were travelling in at Lufupa River Camp in the Kafue National Park in Zambia,
A video recording of the moment the incident occurred has circulated online sparking reactions among members of the social media community.
In the video, the tour guide, who was also the driver, stopped the vehicle as the terrain was uneven, and covered with loose rocks and gravel.
Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reveals that from January 1 to April 30, 2024, road accidents have resulted in the tragic loss of 1,554 lives, with pedestrians identified as the most vulnerable road users.
Among the fatalities, 574 were pedestrians, followed by motorcyclists with 356 deaths and passengers at 329. Additionally, 134 drivers lost their lives during this period, while pillion passengers accounted for 129 deaths.
March emerged as the deadliest month, recording 403 road fatalities, closely followed by April, which saw 388 deaths.
