Fire broke out at the Nacico Co. Chambers Building along Moi Avenue in Nairobi Cental Business District (CBD) on Monday, March 11 afternoon.
The fire reportedly started at one of the shops in the building, which is located near Imenti House. However, no injuries had been reported at the time of publishing.
Nairobi fire rescue team and the county askaris, kanjos, are working to put out the fire.
The police have sealed off the scene of the incident in collaboration with other authorities to allow for smooth operation.
The cause of the fire was yet to be established by the time of publishing.
A crowd of onlookers surrounded the scene after the breakout destructing efforts by firefighters to put out the fire.
Reports further indicated that businesses closer to the building were forced to shut down as a precautionary measure.
This also gave the firefighters an easy time to deal with the outbreak.
Traffic police are also controlling movement of vehicles near the building to prevent any injuries.
Recent Fire Breakouts in Nairobi
The adds to the list of fire incidents reported in Nairobi County and its environs in recent months.
In February, three people died while more than 280 others were injured after a fatal gas explosion in Embakasi East Constituency
Another fire burnt down a children’s home in the same constituency on March 3 leaving property destroyed and many children homeless.

Sifuna’s Revelation about Nairobi Fire Disaster
The fire incidents prompted Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to investigate the challenges faced by the Nairobi County disaster team.
In a statement on March 5, Sifuna said one of the problems facing the team is mismatched education qualifications and careers.
Sifuna explained that some of the employees at the department are hired for jobs they didn’t study for at the university.

“In my quest to understand where exactly the problem is with disaster response in Nairobi, be it fire incidents or rescue I’m learning that there is serious mismatch of qualifications and roles hindering those qualified from actually performing their duties,” he said.
The senator said the chief fire officer has a bachelor’s degree in library studies while the senior disaster management officer holds a bachelor’s degree in Tours and Trave.
He revealed that the principal disaster management officer holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations (PR) while the principal fire officer has a master’s degree in theology.
