Former Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner General and East African Cables Board Chairman Michael Waweru is dead.
Waweru passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024, according to a statement by the East African Cables. However, the company did not reveal the cause of his death.

He had served at company as chairman for seven years since his appointment in June 2017.
“He was not only a visionary leader but one with unwavering dedication, insightful guidance, with a pioneering spirit that laid the foundation for the Group’s success,

“Throughout his tenure, Dr. M. G. Waweru’s contributions were immeasurable, and his legacy will forever be etched in the history of our company and in our hearts,” the company stated.
At the same time, the company eulogized Waweru as a great leader with years of experience that led to the growth of the organization.

“Under his leadership, East African Cables benefitted from his immense experience especially in strengthening of systems and structures,” added the statement.
In addition, the organization celebrated his witty nature that lightened the air even during difficult times.
“We remember Dr. Waweru for his wit and ability to keep everyone engaged even during challenging times,” added the statement.

Michael Waweru Service at KRA
Waweru also served as the Commissioner General of Kenya Revenue Authority between 2003 and 2012.
Because of his transformative service at the authority, the late former President Mwai Kibaki awarded him the Chief Order of the Burning Spear.
Also, Kibaki lauded him for the strategies he used while he was boss at KRA that led to the surge in tax collection.
At the same time, Waweru was one of the founding members of TransCentury Plc, an Investment Holding Company.
In recognition of his remarkable contribution to the public and private sector, he was in 2022 awarded an Honorary Doctorate by KCA University.

Maina Wanjigi Dies
Earlier on June 28, 2024, former Minister and father to politician Jimmy Wanjigi, Maina Wanjigi was confirmed dead. Wanjigi passed on at the age of 92 years while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
The deceased, a former Cabinet Minister served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for current Kamukunji Constituency for over 25 years before his retirement from politics.
During his tenure as a minister, he held various cabinet positions, including Minister for Public Works, Agriculture, and Tourism.
Before independence, Maina Wanjigi served as an assistant agricultural extension officer in Nyeri District before transitioning into active politics.
HeMaina Wanjigi gained public attention when the late founding President Jomo Kenyatta appointed him shortly after independence.
