Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, has alleged that the government is plotting to rig the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on May 13, 2025, Musyoka criticized the recruitment process for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), claiming it was deeply flawed and compromised the integrity, legitimacy, and public trust in the commission.
“From the outset, the recruitment process was fundamentally flawed. The selection panel was essentially a political extension of the State House, filled with loyalists of President Ruto and his backroom advisors. The constitutional principles of consultation, public participation, and political neutrality were entirely disregarded. The result is a compromised commission lacking both integrity and public confidence,” part of the statement read.
He went on to highlight specific reasons why he believes the appointed commissioners were not selected based on merit:

On Hassan Noor, Kalonzo says that the nominated commissioner is a relative of Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed and that he was not on the original shortlist.
“His inclusion only came after Junet lobbied for an extension of the selection panel’s deadline,” Kalonzo claimed.
In addition, the Wiper Party leader raised a question on how Joy Midivo, a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party official, and Charles Nyachae, a long-time ally of President William Ruto, were both shortlisted despite clear conflicts of interest, which Musyoka argued cast doubt on their impartiality.

Wiper Leader Questions Selection Process
Also, among the questions raised is the inclusion of Dr. Adams Oloo, a member of the selection panel, whom he alleged also serves as Ruto’s strategic communications advisor, which Musyoka described as an outright breach of impartiality.
What’s more, the former Vice President cast questions on selection of Erastus Edung, the nominee for IEBC Chairperson, who he notes has close ties to State House via Comptroller Josphat Nanok. Musyoka pointed out Edung’s failed tenure as County Attorney in Turkana.
Further, he argued that the current composition of the commission violates this fundamental requirement of article 88(2) of the constitution that seeks the commission to be independent, impartial, and free from political influence.

Project to Rig Elections
“This is not a commission for the people. It is a project designed to rig the next election in broad daylight,” read the statement.
Additionally, he demanded the immediate and full publication of the Selection Panel’s exit report and all Hansard records that the public can scrutinize on the criteria the selectional panel used to recommend the 6 nominees of the commission.
“We are taking immediate steps to establish a People’s IEBC citizen-led watchdog that will mirror the official commission and hold it to the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and constitutionalism as envisioned in Article 10 on national values and the principles of good governance,” ended the statement.
