The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption along a major highway within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
KeNHA in a notice on August 29, 2024, announced a temporary traffic disruption at Haile Selassie Roundabout on Uhuru Highway A8 Road, citing scheduled road works.
The Authority said that the scheduled road works are set to take place from Saturday 31st August 2024 to Tuesday 15th October 2024.
“This traffic disruption is due to scheduled road works for construction of pedestrian underpass at the section which will commence from Saturday August 31, 2024, to Tuesday October 15, 2024,” read part of the notice.
Further, KeNHA advised motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.
Traffic disruption on Uhuru Highway
Vehicles from Upper Hill towards Waiyaki Way to use diversion at the Greenpark terminus while those from Mombasa Road to Waiyaki Way will use the diversion at Greenpark.

At the same time, vehicles from Waiyaki Way to Mombasa Road will use diversion at Rubis Petrol Station while motorists coming from CBD to Mombasa Road to use the diversion at Rubis Petrol Station or the Ring Road behind Neno Evangelism Church.
KeNHA noted that vehicles from CBD towards Upper Hill and from Upper hill to CBD will not be disrupted.
The announcement by KeNHA comes after the Authority announced that traffic disruptions are anticipated at the Gitaru interchange on the Southern Bypass and Western Bypass from Wednesday, August 28, 2024, through Sunday, September 1, 2024.
KeNHA in a notice announced that this interruption is necessary to facilitate the ongoing construction of the Southeastern loop at the Gitaru interchange.
KeNHA Announces Traffic Disruption on the Southern and Western Bypass
During this period, travelers heading from Nakuru to the Southern Bypass were advised to detour at the Regen/Magana interchange, located 3 kilometers from Gitaru, before continuing on the bypass.

For those traveling from the Western Bypass to Nairobi, the Authority recommended route was via the slip road at Kwa Magu underpass, proceeding through Gitaru Market, and then connecting to Mlango Soko and the A8 road at Rungiri.
Additionally, motorists journeying from Nairobi to Ndenderu were directed to divert at Muguku interchange to access the Western Bypass. Vehicles moving from the Southern Bypass towards Nairobi on the other hand were directed take a left turn at the slip road, execute a U-turn, and travel to Nairobi via Waiyaki Way.
However, KeNHA indicated that routes between the Southern Bypass and Western Bypass, as well as from Nakuru/Mai Mahiu to Western or Nairobi to the Southern Bypass, would remain unaffected by the construction.
