The statement indicated that in January 2024, parties to the Sudanese conflict gathered in a neighbouring country to discuss an inclusive path forward.
Additionally, Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and civilian groups chose Nairobi as the venue to present their roadmap for peace, reinforcing Kenya’s credibility as a mediator.

“Indeed, in January 2024, parties and stakeholders to the Sudanese conflict met in a neighbouring country to chart a way forward on inclusive dialogue and return to civilian rule.
“Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudanese civilian groups’ tabling of a roadmap and proposed leadership in Nairobi is compatible with Kenya’s role in peace negotiation which enjoins her to provide non-partisan platforms to conflict parties to seek resolutions,” the statement read in part.

Therefore, Mudavadi noted that the delicate balance was the only way Sudan could achieve long-term peace, stability, and economic prosperity.
Further, the statement explained that Kenya’s role extends beyond diplomacy, it has actively provided a neutral platform for Sudanese stakeholders to negotiate solutions.
“Kenya therefore reiterates its solidarity with the people of Sudan as they define their destiny and future political governance through inclusive dialogue.
“Kenya is confident that the Sudanese people will find a quick solution to the current situation, and in a manner that safeguards its security and that of the region,” added Mudavadi.
Moreover, through regional bodies such as IGAD, the AU, and other international mechanisms, Kenya has vowed to continue supporting Sudan’s transition, ensuring peace not just for Sudan but for the entire Horn of Africa.

On Tuesday, February 19, the RSF, one of the warring factions accused of genocide in Sudan’s ongoing conflict, held a meeting in Nairobi to announce the formation of a parallel administration in Khartoum, which it called the ‘Government of Peace and Unity.’
The gathering served as an initial step toward establishing a new political alliance, bringing together political factions and armed groups backing the sanctioned militia.
On Tuesday, February 18 evening, Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry voiced disappointment over Kenya’s decision to host the event, stating that it contradicted Kenya’s high-level commitments to prevent any hostile activities against Sudan within its borders.
The ministry further emphasized that the event’s objective was to set up a rival government within Sudanese territory.
