The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) on Wednesday, October 23, announced partial blackouts in several areas.
In a statement, the Lighting Company announced that it is working to resolve the issue.
“Parts of Garissa town have been without power since yesterday due to a fault at a KETRACO Substation that serves the area.
A dedicated team from KETRACO and Kenya Power is on-site working to resolve the issue. Power restoration is expected later today,” announced Kenya Power.

Following the announcement, Kenyans responded to the statement across different social media platforms.
Kenyans respond to the Lighting Company’s announcement
A Facebook user named Sandra Gichani sarcastically responded to KPLC’s announcement: “Adani will resolve power blackouts in the country. My country people, let’s be patient,” Gichani said sarcastically.
Another user, Gideon, also voiced his opinion by calling out the government, saying they had promised to resolve power blackouts when they signed a deal with Adani Group for power investment.
“You said that once you sign the deal with Adani, there will be no power blackouts.
That is to say, you have been proudly saying since yesterday that the issue will be solved later today. Are you serious about other people’s lives in hospitals? Don’t you know that people use power for business? Shame on you,” Gideon responded angrily.

Another Facebook user dismissed KPLC’s announcement that some parts of Garissa don’t have electricity and claimed that the entire Garissa region has been affected.
The power blackout in those areas comes a month after the Lighting company announced a major blackout on September 6 that affected most of Kenya except parts of the North Rift and Western Regions.
A transmission line tripping attributed the blackout at a substation followed by a second trip on the Ethiopia Kenya high voltage transmission line.
