Weeks after Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi was abducted and tortured in Tanzania, another activist Mwabili Mwagodi has gone missing within President Samia Suluhu’s territory.
Human Rights Activist and Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid said Mwagodi’s family informed him of his abduction.
In a statement, Khalid said the activist was abducted on Wednesday, July 24, 2025.
“A Kenyan has been abducted in Tanzania. Again. Family has confirmed that Mwabili Mwagodi, who is a Kenyan activist and was vocal against church donations, was abducted in Tanzania on Wednesday,” Khalid said.
Khalid criticized Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu for the recent arrest of Kenyan activists.
“It seems President Suluhu and her government are working around the clock to target Kenyan activists,” he said.
He also attached a screenshot of a message sent to him by Isabella Kituri, who identified herself as Mwagodi’s sister.
Isabella said Mwagodi works for Amani Beach hotel in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
She said Mwagodi said they have been unable to reach him since Wednesday night.
“Hello Hussein, My brother Mwabili Mwagodi on twitter TL Elder is missing since last night in Dar E Salaam. We are unable to reach him,” Isabella said.
Employer Blocked from Reporting Him as a Missing Person
Isabella said the employer tried reporting him as a missing person, but they were told to wait for 24 hours.
“His employer went to report missing person report this evening but was told until it’s 24 hours,” she said.

Mwabili Mwagodi Family Worried
Isabelle said the family is worried because he has been against President William Ruto’s church fundraisers.
She mentioned that Mwagodi has also been a key mobilizer of the Gen Z on social media.
“We are worried because He was in the frontline of blocking Ruto’s church fundraising missions in church and has been quite vocal, mobalising Gen Z on social media platforms. Is there anyone who can help with information tracing?” Isabelee asked.
During the June 2o24 Gen Z protests, Mwagodi kicked off the campaign of directly texting or calling church pastors and bishops and personally urging them to stop inviting Kenyan politicians including the President Ruto from their functions.
