Kenya Power has issued a public notice detailing scheduled power interruptions in several regions on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

The outages are part of routine maintenance aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of the electricity supply.

The exercise will affect parts of Kisumu, Nyamira, and Mt. Kenya regions, with work expected to run from morning to late afternoon.

Western Region: Kisumu County

Residents in Katito Town will experience outages between 9:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.

Areas targeted include the Nyakwere Center, KEMFRI, Sangoro Police, Apondo Kasaye, and Sondu Miriu, as well as their adjacent customers.

Kenya Power has emphasized that these works are necessary to reinforce the network and reduce unplanned disruptions.

In Chiga Market, power will be off from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The blackout will affect Land Matope Village, Masawa Village, Kasese Market, and Kasarani Market.

The company has urged residents to plan accordingly, noting that maintenance teams will work swiftly to restore supply once upgrades are complete.

South Nyanza Region: Nyamira County

In Nyamira, the focus will be on Metamanywa and Tinderet, where electricity will be unavailable from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The affected zones include Masige Farm, Tinderet, Metamanywa, Keginga, Makone Farm, and Rigoko.

Kenya Power states that the maintenance will involve replacing aging components and enhancing line stability to support the growing demand in the area.

Mt. Kenya Region: Archer’s Post and Wamba

The largest maintenance stretch will occur in Archer’s Post and Wamba, with outages scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The blackout will impact a wide range of locations, including Maili Nane, Kisimani, Soi, Maili Saba, Maili Tano, Rangelands, Royal Acacia, Baraka Farm, Maili Tatu, Meru Woods, Mega Quarry, Kambi Garba, Mabatini, El Boran, Archer’s Post, Sarova Shamba, Kalama, Lengusaka, Lerata, Wamba Town, Swari, and Lolokwe.

Kenya Power has assured customers that the maintenance is part of a broader strategy to modernize infrastructure in remote and semi-arid areas, where reliability challenges have persisted due to harsh environmental conditions.

Company Advisory and Customer Preparedness

Kenya Power has advised customers in the affected regions to make necessary arrangements to mitigate inconvenience during the outage period.

Businesses relying on electricity for operations have been urged to consider alternative power sources such as generators or solar backup systems.

The utility company reiterated its commitment to improving service delivery, noting that planned maintenance is essential to prevent unexpected breakdowns and enhance safety.

“We understand the inconvenience caused by these interruptions, but they are critical for long-term reliability,” the statement read.

Customers seeking more information can contact Kenya Power through its official helpline or social media platforms.

Updates on restoration times will be shared promptly once maintenance is completed.

Aging Infrastructure

Kenya Power faces significant challenges due to aging infrastructure, which impacts reliability, efficiency, and safety.

Much of the network was built decades ago and has not been fully modernized.

Worn-out cables and transformers lead to frequent breakdowns and outages, and high maintenance costs strain financial resources.

Aging equipment contributes to technical losses, currently estimated at over 21% of transmitted power.

The losses reduce revenue and increase operational inefficiency.

Despite these challenges, Kenya Power remains committed to delivering reliable electricity to millions of Kenyans.

Through scheduled maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, and strategic investments, the company is working tirelessly to modernize its network and ensure a stable power supply for homes and businesses across the country.

Kenya Power’s Future Plans

The scheduled works come amid increased investment in grid modernization and expansion projects across Kenya.

With rising electricity demand driven by industrial growth and rural electrification programs, Kenya Power has prioritized preventive maintenance to minimize disruptions.

The company has also hinted at future upgrades involving smart grid technology and automated fault detection systems, which will reduce the need for prolonged outages during repairs.

These initiatives align with Kenya’s broader energy strategy to ensure stable and affordable power for households and businesses.
