Hanna Wendot Cheptumo was sworn in as the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
This followed vetting and approval by the national assembly, following her nomination by President William Ruto.

Ruto had made a promise to CS Cheptumo during the funeral of her husband the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo.
Hannah Teriki Wendot Cheptumo is a Kenyan lawyer and now a nominee for the position of Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage.

She is recognized for her legal expertise, resilience, and commitment to family and community service.
Her journey into law was inspired and encouraged by her late husband, Senator William Cheptumo, who envisioned a future where she would play a role in managing their family’s legal practice.

She later joined a law firm established by her husband, where she played a significant role in its operations.
Before marrying the late Senator, Hannah worked at a government office in Nyayo House.
Nyayo House houses over 58 National and County Government departments that provide essential services to citizens, especially immigration services.
With a background in public service, the CS nominee has been an advocate for women’s rights, legal empowerment, and social justice.

Hanna Wendot Cheptumo’s Marriage
Hannah was married to the late Senator William Cheptumo, with whom she shared a deep and enduring bond.
Their love story was one of persistence and devotion, with Cheptumo reportedly captivated by her smile and teeth, a humor she shared during the late senator’s requiem mass at AIC Milimani, Nairobi.
The couple had three children, Antony Kipchirchir, Andrew Rotich, and Jean Jeptoo, all of whom followed in their parents’ footsteps by pursuing careers in law.
Speaking on Saturday, March 1, during Cheptumo’s burial in Bartabwa, Baringo County, President William Ruto promised to give Hanna Wendot Cheptumo a job.

However, at the time, he did not specify the position he would be appointing her to.
According to the president, the late senator was resourceful and progressive with robust development credentials, and his powerful voice faithfully spoke for the voiceless, furthering peace and stability in Baringo and the Kerio Valley.
He also revealed that his administration worked closed with the Senator and fulfilled his requests, including enhancing security in Baringo County.
