The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of police officer Benedict Kabiru, who went missing in Haiti while serving in the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM).
In a statement on September 25, NPS Director of Corporate Services, Muchni Nyanga, said the NPS has received reports that Kabiru is dead, and his family has been notified.
In a tragic turn of events, the National Police Service (NPS) received information regarding the death of the missing police officer, and the family has been notified.
Nyanga sent condolences to Kabiru’s family and colleagues and assured them that the NPS will support them during this period.
He stated that the MSSM is working closely with the Haitian National Police (HNP) and NPS and will provide further updates.
The NPS extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer and assures them of its unwavering and continued support during this time of profound sorrow. Meanwhile, the MSSM continues to work in collaboration with the HNP on this matter and will provide further updates as the situation develops.
Nyanga said the Service was notified that a Kenyan police officer serving with the MSSM in Haiti was missing in action on March 26, 2025.
The officer had been reported missing while on duty the previous day, March 25, 2025, following an ambush on the Carrefour Paye-Savien main supply route in the Pont-Sonde area of the Artibonite Department.
Nyanga said the NPS promptly informed the officer’s family of the incident and has remained in close contact, providing updates as the situation evolved.
“Since then, the MSSM, in collaboration with the HNP, has been conducting a meticulous search and rescue operation to locate the missing officer,” he said.

Ruto’s Revelation
The confirmation comes after President William Ruto confirmed that the officer died in Haiti during his speech at the High-Level Meeting on Haiti at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Ruto mentioned Benedict as one of the three Kenyan police officers who have been killed in the Mission.
“I must use this occasion to honor the Kenyan officers Samuel Tuoi, Benedict Kabiru, and Kennedy Nzuve, who lost their lives in the line of duty,” Ruto said.

Body of Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve
Furthermore, NPS said the body of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, who died in a tragic road traffic accident on September 1, 2025, is scheduled to arrive in Nairobi on September 26, 2025.
“NPS remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Kenyans, residents, visitors, and their property. Furthermore, we are dedicated to achieving the mandate of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti in full compliance with international law,” Nyaga said.
