The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched the Instant Fines Traffic Management System, which automatically issues traffic violation notices to motorists via SMS.
In a statement dated March 9, the NTSA Director General informed all motorists and drivers that the system is now live and running.
“The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) wishes to inform the public that the Instant Fines Traffic Management System is now live,” the statement read in part.
According to the director general, the process is fully automated and operates without human intervention, ensuring greater transparency, efficiency, and accountability in traffic enforcement.
How the New NTSA System Works
The Instant Fines Traffic Management System introduced by the National Transport and Safety Authority is a fully automated platform designed to enhance traffic enforcement across Kenya.
According to the NTSA Director General, the system automatically identifies traffic violations and issues notifications directly to the offending motorists via SMS, eliminating the need for manual intervention.
“The system will automatically issue traffic violation notifications via SMS to motorists where applicable,” he stated.

Once a violation is detected, the system generates a fine and sends the details, including the amount payable and reference information, to the registered mobile number of the vehicle owner or driver.
Authority Cautions On Non-Compliance
Further, the authority stated that all fines can be settled through the branch network of KCB Group, and motorists are required to pay within a 7-day period from the date of notification.
Failure to pay within this timeframe results in interest being added to the outstanding amount.
“All fines issued through the system can be paid through the branch network of KCB Group within 7 days. Failure to settle the fine due within the 7 days will result in the amount due earning interest,” it stated.

In addition, the vehicle or the driver with a pending fine will be blocked from the system, and the driver will not be able to perform any transactions on NTSA service platforms, such as renewing licenses, transferring ownership, or accessing other regulatory services, until the fine is fully cleared.
The body encouraged motorists to adhere to road rules and respond promptly to SMS notifications to avoid additional penalties and service restrictions.
“Motorists are advised to observe all traffic regulations and respond promptly to any official notifications received. Further details will be communicated through the official government channels, the statement advised.
