Azimio la Umoja supporter Nuru Okanga will spend at least five days behind bars following a Court order that granted the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions the right to detain him.
ODPP in a statement on June 13, 2024, announced that the Milimani Law Courts granted the prosecution five days to detain Okanga at the Muthaiga Police Station pending investigations.

Okanga is accused of publishing false information, among other offences with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) set to launch the investigations.
“The Milimani Law Courts granted the Prosecution five days to detain activist Nuru Maloba Okang’a. He will be detained at the Muthaiga police station to allow the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to complete investigations into allegations of Publication of false information, contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No.5 of 2018,” read the statement from the ODPP.

According to the ODPP, the Azimio diehard supporter is also under investigation for Cyber harassment contrary to Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, among other offenses.
Nuru Okanga Arrested
Okanga was arrested on June 11, 2024, at his home in Kayole estate, Nairobi County, and taken to the DCI headquarters for interrogations before his arraignment.

The Investigating officer informed the court that initial investigations had revealed suspicious accounts allegedly managed by the suspect.
According to the prosecution, the flagged accounts posted malicious and false information about the Republic of Kenya and its leadership, advocating for public disturbance.
Prosecution Counsel Virginia Kariuki told court that police are investigating continued dissemination of detrimental comments posted online by a number of social media platforms alongside some websites linked to Nuru.
The comments posted through social media platforms including TikTok and YouTube are considered a threat and may contribute to disturbances affecting peace, order, and public safety according to ODPP.

Further, police have identified Okanga as a serial offender in relation to this investigation. Nuru Okanga’s case will be mentioned on June 18, 2024.
This arrest marks the second time the Azimio die-hard is being put behind bars in a year’s time.
Nuru Arrested for Criticizing President Ruto
The Azimio la Umoja supporter and fanatic was arrested back in November 2023 over his remarks in a video criticizing President William Ruto.
According to a charge sheet dated November 30, Okanga was captured in a video on YouTube hurling insults at President Ruto over his stance on the government-to-government oil deal.
The charge sheet further stated that some of the words uttered by the Azimio supporter were abusive and intimidating.
Okanga was later arraigned in court on Thursday, November 30, 2023, to answer to the charges as stipulated in, with the court releasing him on a Ksh10,000 bail.
